Liang Kee Teochew Restaurant: Signboard

Liang Kee restaurant started in 1974 at Ellenborough Market. After the founder Ng Bak Liang passed away, two of his sons and a Taiwanese partner each opened their restaurants bearing the “Liang Kee” name. But you know lah, when too many people is in a business, there are always so arguments and relationships turn sour. You can read about their drama here.

I had an enjoyable and quiet lunch at Liang Kee with my ex colleagues. They serve true tecohew comfort food, tasty and at very affordable prices, without service charge and GST.

Liang Kee Teochew Restaurant: Fried Fresh Oyster with Egg

Because there is only three of us, so we only ordered a few dishes to share. One of them is Fried Fresh Oysters with Egg ($12) which came with fresh, plump oysters, a fluffy omelette and some sambal.

Liang Kee Teochew Restaurant: Braised Duck

Even though Liang Kee’s Teochew Braised Duck ($14) looks pale, it is very tasty. The saltiness level was to my liking and I enjoyed how flavoursome the duck meat was, as sometimes braised duck meat can turn out rather bland. The meat is tender and soaked in fragrant soy sauce and other spices. It is served with transparent chilli with vingear dip.

Liang Kee Teochew Restaurant: Trigger Fish

Another popular dish in the restaurant is Trigger Fish (Ti Kia) with bean sauce ($26). The bean sauce is very rich and I think I can finish a whole bowl of rice with that.

Nothing fanciful here, very down to earth. Good for family gathering.
