Chinese New Year is the festive occasion that I look forward to the most. Why, you might ask? Well, family reunions, ang pows, and of course, the great food! Speaking of awesome food, Lime Restaurant at PARKROYAL on Pickering has outdone themselves this year. Their Lunar New Year buffet feast will have you rubbing your tummies in glee.

Lime has prepared two scrumptious reunion feast – possibly the best yet. Expect an abundance of exquisite dishes in the Feast of Paws-perity and the highly anticipated A Royal Reunion this Year of the Dog.

A Royal Reunion (15 to 18 February (除夕,初一, 二, 三) and 2 March 2018 (初十五))

This specially curated Lunar New Year menu that’s available only on the aforementioned dates is here to pamper. The Claypot Foie Gras Rice is certainly the star of the show. Every serving of claypot rice comes with a thick decadent slab of foie, and each spoonful carries a lovely smoky wok hei that will steal your heart.

The Five Spice Braised Duck Leg Carta Fata goes really well with the Claypot Foie Gras Rice. Undo the carta fata to find an incredibly tender duck leg that will have you drooling before you even take a bite of it. The mouthwatering duck is marinated in a five-spice marinade to achieve that perfect harmony of flavours which culminate in a lingering umami.

Buddha Jumps Over the Wall is a luxurious dish that we don’t get to try very often. We were so pleased to learn that this hearty broth that is packed with premium ingredients such as abalone and scallops can be found in a buffet spread! Wow, Lime really promises nothing but the epitome of opulence. We are not sure about you, but we definitely think that A Royal Reunion this lavish is a huge bang for the buck.

A Chinese New Year reunion would be incomplete without Yu Sheng, and diners can toss to an even bigger and better new year with a complimentary platter of Prosperity Yu Sheng that boasts Fresh salmon slices, crispy fish skin, gold coin bak kwa, traditional candied vegetables, and chef’s special Yu Sheng sauce.

A Royal Reunion:
15 February (Thursday) – Reunion Lunch: $68++, Reunion Dinner: $128++
16 February (Friday), 17 February (Saturday), 2 March (Friday) – Lunch: $68++
16 February (Friday), 17 February (Saturday), 18 February (Sunday), 2 March (Friday) – Dinner: $88++
18 February (Sunday) – Super Lunch Sunday: $88++

Feast of Paws-perity (2 February to 1 March 2018)

Available as early as 2 February, the Feast of Paws-perity features classic Lunar New Year dishes with a cosmopolitan spin. Before you tuck in, Lime welcomes all patrons with a complimentary glass of Swag – a refreshing drink that is concocted using eight treasure herbs, wild berries and salted egg cadillac foam. Paying tribute to the Chinese Zodiac this year, a cute fruit peel carving in the shape of a doggo stands on top of your drink. How cute is that!

Why bother with starters, when you can go straight for a serving of Thyme and Garlic Roasted Lamb Chop with Mongolian Sauce? Believe us when we tell you that you’ll be going back for seconds.

I found the Peking Duck with Hoisin Sauce Pizza particularly addictive. A thin pizza crust is generously laden with crispy Peking duck, and slathered with a delightful Hoisin sauce. Roll up the pizza and eat it, like we did, and be awestruck by the salty and sweet notes of the sauce, and the fine crisp of the duck. If you prefer the traditional version where the Peking Duck is wrapped in Pancake skin, it’s available exclusively on Lime ‘A Royal Reunion’ buffet spread. (see dates above)

Lime is also dishing out familiar traditional Chinese New Year dishes to cater to those who love classic flavours. My favourite has to be the Braised Fish Fillet in Traditional Five Spice Soya Sauce. I loved that layer of crispy fish skin that cracked apart with a loud crunch right before I sunk my teeth into the succulent white fish. Don’t miss the Braised Pork Belly Buns (Kong Ba Bao) and the Slow Cooked Soy Braised Pork Belly with Fatt Choy too!

After stuffing yourself full with the savoury dishes, it’s time to activate your second stomach for Lime’s selection of traditional and decadent desserts. Revel in the Mandarin Orange Cheesecake which is the perfect union of a smooth and creamy cheesecake base, and citrus elements. We had too much of the cheesecake, but we couldn’t keep our hands off it!
