Loaf On – Michelin Star Seafood Restaurant in Sai Kung, Hong Kong

Talking about Sai Kung, the first thing we would think of must be seafood. Evolved from a fishing village in Hong Kong’s New Territories, you can take a stroll along the main road and spend a lot of time admiring the sea creatures. Since Sai Kung is a seafood town, you must be wondering where should you have a seafood meal? Loaf On is the only Seafood restaurant with Michelin star in Sai Kung.

In this iconic seafood restaurant in the Saikung market, customers can bring their freshly bought seafood to Loaf On and the chef will decide the menu for you. Alternatively, order from their range of seafood dishes. A must try here is Fish Soup with Potatoes and Tomatoes (HKD148) which such an amazing flavour! There is no fish in the soup anymore as it has been pureed and cooked to a milky white broth. The potatoes and tomatoes serve as a compliment which provides a mild tanginess to the soup. Crispy Salt & Pepper Tofu (HKD98) is really soft and smooth on the inside, with a crispy skin on the outside. It is a top starter at Loaf On as it is so addictive.

Razor Clams in black bean sauce (seasonal price) were really fresh and sweet, with a slightly chewy texture. The black bean sauce is intense and bold, which goes really well with a bowl of rice. Even the bell peppers are not over-cooked. We also ordered a palm-sized piece of Steamed Abalone which I thought was nothing much to shout about, perhaps due to the steamed HK sauce. But you can probably try it in salt and pepper style which may be more tasty. The Steamed Scallops were served on their shells, topped with garlic and glass vermicelli. It helps to preserve the most original flavors of these scallops, glass vermicelli helps to soak up the richness of the sea. The restaurant is not big, booking is definitely need. Heard they will relocate this year, be sure to call and check it out before making a trip there.

At Sai Kung, you can still see fishermen still unload their catch at the harbour where there’s a market centre with countless tanks of fresh seafood. Thank you WingK for the treat!
