*CLOSED* Mama’s Curry – Young Hawker Cooks Thick and Rich Curry Fish Head in Golden Mile Food Centre

If there is a dish I cannot resist even when I am full, that is curry. Young hawker Lin Weisheng has just started his own curry stall in Golden Mile Food Centre. He learnt the recipe from his mother who has opened a franchise outlet of Na Na Curry in Bedok.

The offerings at Mama’s Curry include Curry Fish Head ($20/$26/$30), Curry Chicken ($5.50/$7.50), Curry Mutton ($6.50), and Curry Vegetable ($4.50).

The curries arrived looking potent, sporting a fiery orange-red hue. I particularly loved the curry chicken. It was creamy with a nice kick of heat, and the meat was almost fork tender after long hours of cooking.  This is one dish I finished in no time, even the chunky potatoes were soft with every bite.

The mutton pieces offered a good bite and they were pretty satisfying without much gaminess. The curry vegetables had a nice balance of sweetness and spiciness, which we enjoyed thoroughly. The cabbage were cooked till soft, which made them a great add-on to the meal.

A trip to Mama’s Curry is not complete without their Curry Fish Head. The bright orange curry leans towards the spicy side. Its full-bodied spiciness is somewhat similar to that of Indian curry fish head, where you can taste the robust spice blend soaked up by cubes of tau pok, eggplant and lady’s fingers.

The well-cooked snapper was soft and tender, and did not break apart despite having been simmered in the claypot for some time. The cheeks were packed with silky smooth meat. The rich curry went very well with a bowl of hot rice and will keep you coming back for more. I liked that the sliced baguette was toasted till crispy, which made it great for dipping into the curry!

The curries here are worth a try, especially the curry fish head. Although significantly fierier than the usual curry fish head, it was well-balanced and addictive, and the fish was fresh.
