The cluster of cafes and eateries within Galaxis at 1 Fusionopolis Place has always been popular with office workers who drop by during their lunch breaks. Marcy Cafe is one of those that sees their seats instantly filled come lunchtime, with many coming for their sandwiches, acai bowls and Hokkaido white coffee.

A sleek yet cosy little hole-in-the-wall compared to its more expansive neighbours, Marcy Cafe provides a comforting escape from the crowds with its comfy seats, wooden tables and latticed overhead lamps.

If you’re looking for something substantial to keep you going for the rest of the day, consider the hearty sandwiches and platters such as the Signature Savoury Waffle ($21), Dino Burger ($20.80), Unagi Tamago ($15.60) and Spicy Tuna Egg Melt ($12.80).

Their beverages range from coffees like Hokkaido White ($6.50, $7.50 for iced), and teas such as Cold Brew Tea ($6.80) to shakes and smoothies that include Acai Dragon Berry Smoothie ($8.80) and Coconut Shake ($5.20).

I decided to get the Roast Beef Burger ($14.90) which features roasted sirloin slices, lettuce, and Marcy’s horseradish creme and cheese blend sandwiched between fluffy potato buns. The burger comes with either a side of salad or chips and I opted for the latter thinking I would be getting fries. Instead, my burger came with a handful of truffle chips. At least they were of a decent quality and the truffle didn’t come off as artificial tasting.

The thin slices of sirloin beef were tender and slightly sweet, but I felt that they could have been more generous with the portion given the price. The wilted-looking lettuce was a letdown and was missing that distinctively fresh crunch. I did appreciate how the potato buns were buttered. The savoury cheese sauce did get a little too congealed after a while.

If I were to return, it would definitely be for the Marcy Original Organic Acai Bowl ($7.20 for petite, $9.60 for regular, $15.50 for dino). The bowl came topped with chunks of mango, kiwi, dragonfruit, blueberries, pomegranate, maple granola, cacao nibs, chia seeds and almond flakes. Choose between peanut butter, almond butter or honey to go with your acai bowl.

Always a perfect treat to beat the heat with, the refreshing dessert was a world of textures. The thickness and slight sweetness of the almond butter also complemented the acai, which wasn’t too icy, well.

I was also intrigued by the Hokkaido Acai Shake ($9) and was pleasantly surprised at how well the richness of the Hokkaido milk came through the acai shake.

Marcy Cafe is a breath of fresh air from the other eateries in the area, and is a good place to make a pit stop to escape the heat, and their acai bowls are definitely worth a try!
