“You’ve found us!”, screams the signage plastered on the glass display. Behind it hangs all the beautifully charred charsiew, crispy roasted pork belly, and both roasted and poached chicken.

Mei Feng Roasted Chicken Rice is known for their roasted delights. Every day, the man behind this stall, Mr Chin, barbecues his own charsiew and roasts his own chicken and pork right here at his stall. His culinary journey first began when he was 14, when he learned to cook at Boon Tong Kee. At 38, he started his own stall at Waterloo Street. He moved to Clementi West five years later and has not looked back ever since.

Already been here at 726 West Coast Market Square for about 10 years, this stall is not hard to locate as there’s almost always a never ending queue, even though Mr Chin dishes out the orders fast. Using my Singaporean instincts, this is a sign good enough to lure me into trying this place out.

Since the stalls prides itself on its Roasted chicken, I went straight for a plate of Roasted chicken rice ($3/4), even though I prefer white poached chicken.

The roasted chicken had a thin yet supple skin, and is roasted till perfection without all its fats rendered away during the roasting process.

The generous portion of chicken breast given was moist, but a little too chewy.

The chili sauce served here is one of the better ones I’ve had. It packs a really spicy punch and leaves a lingering sting of ginger on your tongue. Lovers of ginger will go crazy over this.

I must say that the roasted pork and charsiew fared better than the roasted chicken. Don’t be deceived by the leanness of the char siew – it was extremely moist and tender!

The roasted pork belly here has a really crispy skin but it isn’t hard to break down. Together with the juicy meat and the fats that just melts in your mouth, THIS IS THE BOMB ($3.50).

Having tried these two dishes on two separate days, there were minor differences in the chicken rice served. The rice was much more fragrant, aromatic and savoury on my first visit as compared omy second visit. Despite the inconsistency, the rice was moist, plump and not greasy at all on both occasions.

If any of you happen to be around Clementi, I urge you to try out this place!
