As a steak-lover, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of childlike anticipation before my visit to Morton’s The Steakhouse. Ever since opening its first outlet in Chicago 40 years ago, Morton’s has definitely cemented itself as one of the most iconic steakhouses in the world!

Morton's The Steakhouse Action Shot

Situated on the fourth storey of the luxurious five-star Mandarin Oriental, Morton’s The Steakhouse serves steaks that are the absolute crème de la crème in terms of quality. Morton’s only uses the finest USDA Prime Grain-fed Beef, which is of the highest grade and quality. Less than 2 percent of American beef earns this designation! Their Prime Beef is also aged for 23 – 28 days to intensify its flavour. So, be prepared for the ultimate steakhouse experience.

Morton's The Steakhouse Seafood Platter

Before digging into their gourmet steaks, get a taste of the sea with Morton’s Chilled Ocean Platter (for two – $98, for three to four – $196, for four to six – $294)! This delectable platter features a plethora of fresh seafood that is elegantly presented on a bed of ice. Our mouths began to water as we prepared to dive into our seafood feast, which comprises Maine Lobster, Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, Jumbo Lump Crabmeat, Oysters on the Half-Shell, and Alaskan King Crab Legs! The platter also comes with four signature sauces – mustard mayo, horseradish, vinaigrette and cocktail sauce.

Even though our platter was meant for two, I would have gladly eaten it all by myself! The oysters were my favourite of the lot. They were fresh and deliciously creamy, while boasting a delicate sweet flavour. It was made even tastier with a dash of the vinaigrette, which added a burst of acidity that brought the flavour of the fresh oyster to the next level!

Morton's The Steakhouse Lobster Bisque

Morton’s Lobster Bisque is a satisfying and wholesome dish that will have you craving for more. At the base of this robust and aromatic bisque is a broth cooked using lobster shells. Despite being a smaller tasting portion, my bowl was still filled with chunks of firm and succulent lobster meat. This is the real deal, and no doubt one of the richest and most glorious lobster bisque that I’ve ever had. I found myself blissfully sipping spoonful after spoonful of this incredibly flavoursome soup. It definitely captured the essence and taste of lobster!

Morton's The Steakhouse Burrata Salad

To contrast the richness of the Lobster Bisque ($38), we decided to try the Burrata Grilled Asparagus and Baby Heirloom Tomato Salad. This salad was a delightful combination of creamy burrata cheese, crunchy grilled asparagus, and a burst of sweet juices from the sweet baby heirloom tomatoes. Rest assured, even those don’t usually eat their greens will enjoy the balance of flavours in this refreshing salad!

Without further ado, it was time for the main event of any visit to Morton’s — the Prime Beefsteak. There was a collective gasp when our server brought our Porterhouse Steak ($150) to the table. This colossal steak was a whopping 24oz (approx. 700g)! A Porterhouse is essentially an over-sized T-Bone steak which contains both the New York strip and the tenderloin (also known as filet mignon).

Steak really doesn’t get any better than this. Cutting into this divine Porterhouse Steak revealed that it was cooked to a mouth-watering shade of pink, or a perfect medium rare. I was filled with glee as I worked my way through each heavenly morsel of this perfectly-cooked steak. Not only did Morton’s The Steakhouse nail the temperature of the beef, they also achieved a beautiful char on the exterior which added a light crunchiness, and lovely smokiness.

Don’t fret if you’re not a fan of steak, Morton’s has other noteworthy mains too. The Honey-Balsamic Glazed Ora King Salmon ($72) is a great alternative for those who love themselves a brilliant slab of salmon, or the more health-conscious among us. The Ora King Salmon, which is one of the finest salmon breeds was fork-tender. In all honesty, it was one of the most tender pieces of salmon I’ve ever had. This scrumptious fillet of salmon is placed over a bed of sweet corn, finely-diced tomatoes and chick peas. I particularly enjoyed the chick peas, as they added body to the dish with their deep and earthy flavour!

Morton's The Steakhouse Mac and Cheese

A delicious steak must be paired with a couple of hearty side dishes. The Bacon & Onion Macaroni & Cheese ($28) is a fantastic accompaniment. The macaroni is thoroughly coated in a rich and creamy cheese sauce, and the dish is topped with a generous sprinkling of cheese before being broiled to achieve a crispy golden-brown top. Infused with flavours of onion and bacon, this Macaroni & Cheese dish is absolutely sublime. Who doesn’t love cheese and bacon? To cut through the richness of the steak and the macaroni & cheese, have a taste of Morton’s Shishito Peppers ($38++). The vibrant green peppers, which were slightly charred, had a subtle tang and were hot and spicy, though not mouth-numbingly so. What a wonderful crunchy munchy to have while we feast on our steak!

Morton's The Steakhouse Red Velvet Cake

No meal at Morton’s The Steakhouse is complete without some classic American desserts lovin’. Treat yourself to the brand new Red Velvet Cake ($30++), which was created by the chefs at Morton’s to celebrate their 40th anniversary. I dug my fork into this exquisitely-plated cake with minimal effort. Moist, light and fluffy, the Red Velvet Cake is a decadent treat that is a must-try.

Morton's The Steakhouse Legendary Chocolate Cake

Morton’s Legendary Hot Chocolate Cake ($30) definitely lives up to its “legendary” title. Slicing open this heavenly dessert released its luscious chocolate core which oozed out slowly. The raspberries sitting on the cake added a tart flavour, which balanced out the sweetness of the cake. I can’t name a better combination than vanilla ice-cream and a hot chocolate cake!

Morton's The Steakhouse Keylime Pie

The Key Lime Pie ($23) is another iconic American dessert available at Morton’s The Steakhouse. The lip-smacking key lime custard filling has a lovely and oh-so-addictive sour tang that is balanced by the sweet soft pie crust. A sizeable slice of Key Lime Pie won’t leave you bursting at the seams, and we promise you that it’s a solid choice to round off your meal with.

Morton’s has quite the reputation for excellent service and excellent time-tested recipes. Their vast menu, which includes more than just Prime Beef, caters to all palates!
