Nan Hwa Cang is one of my favourite steamboat place. Located at the corner of North Bridge Road and Jalan Sultan, this is one of the place that sells traditional Teochew fish head steamboat. The restaurant has been around since 1927 and to me, it has one of the most tasty broth.
I used to work in Keypoint and my ex colleagues and I would always head to Nan Hwa Cang for dinner. This time round, it was Derrick’s birthday and he wanted to have his birthday meal at this lovely steamboat place. Wish granted, because I love it too! I am not very democratic one! Haha!
We started our dinner with some fried shrimp roll, oyster omelette, prawn paste chicken wings and sambal kang kong. I particularly like the hei zou (shrimp rolls) because they were huge and packed with flavourful filling with occasional crunchy bites of water chestnuts.
We ordered the Pomfret steamboat (Bai Cang), an ocean fish that does not taste fishy with beautiful white meat. The fish goes so well with the soup which also has yam and vegetables. I can have many many bowls of it. The soup has a lovely sweetness but please don’t request for refill ah, sure become diluted!
