Nando's Cataplana Porto

I am a fan of Nando’s because I really like their fame-grilled chicken. But I have never blogged about it as my hands are always too busy peeling the chicken so the most rational thing to do is to focus on eating (except for this post where I packed home for my food styling homework). But when I went to the latest outlet in Jcube that day, I decided I should just take out my camera.

Nando’s started in South Africa over 20 years old and it was brought into Singapore only in 2010. It is well known for their Peri-Peri flame-grilled chicken but recently, they have also launched two new portugese-inspired Cataplana dishes.

For mushroom-lovers, the Cataplana Porto ($19.90) has generous servings of Flame-grilled Peri-Peri chicken thighs, spice rice, mushrooms and olives. The ingredients are simmered in the Cataplana to give it a lovely taste.

Nando's Cataplana Originale

I like the Cataplana Originale ($19.90) which has a rich blend of Flame-grilled Peri-Peri chicken thighs, spice rice, bell peppers, courgettes, onions and ripe tomatoes. The chicken thighs are succulent with fresh grilled vegetables which makes for a truly well- balanced meal.

Nando's Petisco

We also ordered the usuals like the Petisco ($23.90) appetizer for sharing. This is an all rounder appetizer which has everything I want. From four chicken wings, mini chicken thighs to olives, novo pita, creamy Perinaise and Peri Hummus, I can eat them all!

Nando

Nothing is complete without eating Nando’s Peri Peri chicken at Nando’s! These chicken pieces are marinated for 24 hours in their secret sauce until the flavour goes right into the bone. Nando’s chickens are never deep-fried but grilled to perfection, right down to the bone on a naked open flame.

And because they are butterfly-cut, the chicken is browned evenly and the flame grill burns off more fat. They are then basted with your choice of Peri-Peri sauce: Extra Hot Peri-Peri, Hot Peri-Peri, Mild Peri-Peri, Lemon & Herb. I chose the Mild Peri-Peri for that day and ordered a 1/2 Chicken with 2 sidelines ($22.90).

I think we ate some other dishes but my hands were dirty already. Still loving their flame-grilled chicken very much, but i think the Hot Peri-Peri is just nice for me. If you are heading to the Nando’s at Jcube, wear a jacket because it is just beside the skating rink — very cold!
