I LOVE SINGAPORE

Nothing much to explain here. If you ask me why I love my country so much, I probably can spend one whole month sharing with you the reasons. The food, the efficient transport system, the clean and safe city, the Great Singapore Sale… there are just so many things I love about this country.

And most importantly, this is my home.

The theme for this year’s National Day Parade is “Loving Singapore, Our Home“.

“Loving Singapore” encourages Singaporeans to reflect on what it means to love our country, what we appreciate about Singapore, and how each individual can express our love for our nation. “Our Home” expresses the fundamental reason why we love our country. Organisers of NDP 2012 are inviting Singaporeans to actively re-discover and express what they love about our nation.

The NDP website (NDP.org.sg) is already up! It is the internet gateway for all of the NDP activities, updates and rehearsals that are happening.

How do I get involved? In addition to various roadshows, exhibitions and photo competitions, you can also take part in a series of inclusive and fun activities. There are many but these are the few which I am going to participate!

Close to 200,000 LEGO® bricks and LEGO® minifigures and over 500 volunteers will re-create a Marina Bay Floating Platform replica depicting the National Day Parade. The “Building a LovingSG” structure will span an area of 12 by 9 metres, about the size of a volleyball court.

By donating as little as a $5, you will receive a pair of customized LEGO® minifigures. One of the LEGO® minifigures will be placed on the seating gallery of the platform, while the other is for your keepsake as a reminder of your participation.

All proceeds will go to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund whose mission is to reach out to every child in need and provide them with the resources to do well in school – and beyond. Only 25,000 customised LEGO® minifigures are created for this purpose, so hurry and grab yours now! It is available at Funan, Tampines Mall, Bugis Junction and JCube.

Do you want to be a part of the National Day Parade (NDP)? Here is your chance to take part without having to go through any rehearsals! The “LovingSG: One Heart, One Voice” project encourages all Singaporeans at home and overseas to come together and express their love for Singapore as one nation, one voice.

It’s simple. All you have to do is submit a video recording of you singing the national anthem Majulah Singapura. These video clips will be spliced together to form Singapore’s first virtual choir, which will premiere during the NDP on 9th August 2012.

You can also visit the roving NDP roadshows from 30th June 2012 – 1st July 2012 at Jurong Point Shopping Centre and 7th July 2012 – 8th July 2012 at Causeway Point Shopping Centre to sing!

The submission period is from 30th May 2012 to 8th July 2012. So let your voices be heard!

Buildings and places have stories to tell – of events and people of good and bad times, of customs and traditions, of life in general. They help us remember where we came from, how we got there, and why we are who we are today. The LovingSG trails will take participants on a journey to re-discover Singapore and all the little things we love about the place we call home. The trails consist of four uniquely themed routes, which will be launched on the following dates:

a. Heritage (19 May to 9 Jun 2012)
b. Urban (17 to 30 Jun 2012)
c. Green (1 to 14 Jul 2012)
d. Food (15 to 29 Jul 2012)

The trail is organised in collaboration with Makansutra.
