Our Korner, a new restaurant and bar perched on the apex of Ann Siang Hill and Erskine Road started last Semptember, is a casual comfort food establishment in Scarlet Boutique Hotel.

Hexagonal shapes, forms and details are used in a subtle interplay throughout the interiors. A muted palette accented with rich teal, jolts of orange and lime was selected to set the visual tone.

The menu reigns a medley of seasonal local and international influences, marrying the cornerstone of Asian favourites such as Laksa Clam Chowder ($14) which was drizzled with truffle oil served in a focaccia bread bowl. We love the combination of bread and laksa, but the strong spices from the soup covered up the taste of truffle oil, which is a pity.

A delicious spicy prawn dish bursting with flavour, high in protein and packed with chilli. The Spicy Garlic Prawns ($16) was stir fried with roasted garlic and chilli and comes in three small cups, which make it convenient for small bites.

We enjoyed the Chilli Crab Sliders ($22) thoroughly. The patty was crab meat with diced water chestnut which wasn’t too dry but you can taste the generous amount of crab meat in the patty. The patty came with mini burger buns, accompanied by signature Singapore chilli crab sauce. The chilli crab sauce was more towards the spicy side, but it sure made us crave for more!

We seemed to be in a crab feast at Our Korner. Putting a traditional Italian dish to a twist, the Chilli Crab Linguine ($25) was tossed with crab meat in spicy tomato sauce topped with poached egg and tempura-style soft shell crab.

The Chilli Crab Linguine was bursting with rich robust flavours and every mouthful, there was generous amount of crabmeat. The deep fried soft shell crabs complemented the dish, but I felt the poached egg didn’t go quite well. When mixed, the linguine came too sticky and dry.

Steamed Cod Fillet ($32) was wrapped in tumeric leaf and served with olive oil mashed potatoes and beurre monte sauce. The combination appeared too pale on the dining table as compared to the bright Chilli Crab Linguine earlier. Cod fillet tasted too mild for our liking and the mashed potatoes were dry.

Triple Chocolate Cheesecake ($14) had a combination of chocolate brownie with baked cheese cake and dark chocolate mousse. Calling it cheesecake is misleading, since there is only one thin slice of cheesecake in the middle. Nevertheless, it was a nice presentation and the chocolate was thick and rich.

I enjoyed Colour Me pretty ($12) which was horlicks ice cream topped with colourful frosted icing cookies because it reminded me of my childhood days when I had the frosted icing cookies. They got their ice cream from a ice cream shop and it was quite good.

Some hits and misses here but we appreciate the creativity of the chef to create modern Singaporean cuisines. I Particularly like the Chilli Crab Sliders, Spicy Garlic Prawns and Laksa Clam Chowder.

With the bar in the restaurant and the restaurant by the bar – the place is made up of different corners that each holds court with its own appeal and purpose. There is a supreme level of cosiness, where couples and groups can create their own sanctuary in which to eat, drink, gossip, make merry.

So I wore Sequins on Sleeves in White from theColourIS for tasting that day. The polyester top with exposed back zipper and sequins on sleeves make this triple the fun to wear!
