Located at The Working Capitol, 3-week-old Pickleville dishes up affordable breakfast and lunches munchies in the heart of the central business district. Fans of the coffee at Sarnies along Tekok Ayer would be glad to know that Pickleville serves up the same blend of coffees and teas as Sarnies, and even has freshly blended smoothies for a quick perk-me-up.

I had the Peanut Butter Smoothie ($9), which was a blend of almond milk, banana, peanut butter and goji berries. I feel that this good go-to breakfast drink was not too sweet and managed to fuel me through the morning.

Synonymous to its name, Pickleville takes pride in their homemade pickles. From the likes of sauerkraut, pickled pumpkin and even pineapple salsa, you can have a taste of their homemade pickles when ordering a rice bowl.

Experiment and customise your own rice bowl to your liking or choose from their signature bowls which come in four flavours – Salmon ($15.50), Chicken ($15), Roasted Beef ($16) or Vegan ($12).

We had the Salmon Rice Bowl and Roasted Beef Rice Bowl for lunch, and boy were they filling. Served in a large, ceramic bowl that exudes minimalism, the rice bowls were packed to the brim with ingredients.

We personally preferred the salmon to the roasted beef, as the baked salmon was tender and flaky, whereas the roasted beef was a bit tough and dry.

However, the star of the bowls were not the meats but the pickled vegetables for us. Both bowls come with a different combination of pickles, but we particularly liked the pickled pumpkin which was sweet and tart, as well as the pineapple salsa, which had a good amount of heat to it.

If rice is too heavy for you, the café also serves up toasts, such as Avocado On Toast ($9.50), Ham & Cheese ($11) and even Nutella & Banana ($8). Again, you can let your creativity take the lead and build your own toast.

Pickleville is great for coffee with friends or for even some me time. We were told that the cafe would start serving tipples in the middle of  January, so there’ll be a new watering hole for after work drinks.
