Located in the ulu (remote) Science Park, The Pipe District Bistro has an interior designed with metal, pipes and wood décor. The industrial-themed bistro provides indoor and outdoor seating, along with an outdoor bar.

By industrial-looking food, it really meant food that are as black as coal. Looking at the menu, it seems like their Chicken Wings Freak Out ($10 for 6pcs) is one of the specialty, with a variety of flavors to choose from such as Classic Buffalo, Chili Crab Style and Salted Egg Butter.

As a fan of salted egg dishes, the Salted Egg Butter flavor was simply too irresistible. Served in a mess tin, the wings seemed to be cooked in a zi char style, the powdery salted egg sauce with curry leaves. However, taking a bite into the wings brought disappointment as the flavored batter could be easily separated from the wings, leaving the meat within tasteless.

The Charcoal Ocean Calamari ($6) definitely fared better, even with its black appearance. Coated with crispy charcoal batter, the fried calamari was savory and rather addictive when eaten with wasabi mayo sauce. The sauce balances out the oiliness of the calamari and brought about a slight tingly sensation from the wasabi.

Their bestsellers were the dishes served and cooked on the Himalayan Salt Block. Slightly on the pricey side, the Prime Beef Tenderloin ($32) is served along with summer vegetables and garlic fried rice. The beef was served raw, so there was the option to cook over the salt block or the hoba leaf. Leaving the meat on the salt block would make it saltier, while the leaf maintains the natural taste of it. While it was a fun experience, the downside was having to leave the place smelling like barbecue due to all the smoke from the cooking.

No doubt it was inconvenient getting to the bistro, but if you need a less crowded place to gather with your friends and have a drink, The Pipe District Bistro would definitely be a great place for it.
