Not to be confused with the restaurant in Marina Bay Sands, Rise is a new aesthetically-pleasing cafe in Potong Pasir. You can’t miss it its blush pink exterior and circular window. The shades of pink and wooden accents make the cozy space pretty Instagrammable.

I was immediately greeted by a myriad of pretty cakes. There were so many to choose from! My favourite of the day was their Apple Crumble Pie Teacake ($7.20). It exuded all the flavours of a classic Apple Crumble — strong cinnamon flavours, and generous amount of apple chunks. I liked how it was also topped with butter streusel, making it a true Apple Crumble Pie, just in cake form.

Another highlight was their Signature Brown Butter Waffles ($7.90), to which I added a scoop of Lemon Speculoos Ice Cream ($4.90). The price of the waffles is slightly above average, but their taste and texture make them worth every penny. The uniformly golden brown waffles were crispy on the outside, and dense, but not heavy, on the inside. In fact, I quite enjoyed the denser interior, but it still had some air pockets for that fluffiness. The brown butter flavour was also prominent, while the waffle retained its crispiness throughout my stay. Lemon ice cream flavours are quite rare, and I thought Rise executed it quite well. The tartness of the lemon kept the ice cream refreshing.

I’m not a big fan of loaves, but the Gula Melaka Coconut Loaf ($4.90) was a pleasant surprise. It was not too sweet, and the flavours of coconut and gula melaka complemented each other very well.

The Yuzu Lemon Teacake ($6.90) was a slight disappointment. Although the lemon and yuzu flavours were prominent in the cream and cake respectively, it just lacked the wow factor to make you come back for another bite.

For drinks, I had their Latte ($5.50) that came with pretty latte art. It was aromatic, but not as creamy as I would have liked it.

I noticed that they offer my favourite Caneles on the weekends, so I’ll be back for those and to try out their other bakes!
