Rokeby

Nestled in the quaint neighbourhood of Jalan Riang, Rokeby is an Australian inspired bistro – offering delectable Australian gourmet food and a variety of Australian beer and wines. We walked past it when we were having dinner at Siam Society and our friend was telling us to try this restaurant some day. So not too long later, we were back to have dinner here!

Rokeby: Mushroom Fritters & Vegemite Glazed Chicken

We started with some appetizers like Mushroom Fritters ($9.90) and Vegemite Glazed Chicken ($11.90). The crispy mushrooms are so juicy, all of us love it! As for vegemite, a truly aussie ingredient, it is really an acquired taste. I am okay with it after a few bites but the boyfriend cannot stand the intense saltiness.

Rokeby: Rokeby Chili Mussel

A big pot of Rokeyby Chilli Mussels ($19.90) came with a rather spicy sauce and served with toasted multigrain bread. I thought the sauce kinda overwhelmed the shellfish. A lighter sauce would have been better.

Rokeby: Braised Ox Cheek Stew

A hearty pot of Braised Ox Cheek Stew ($20.90) made my tummy happy. The beef was soft and tender with rich and savoury flavour from the stew.

Rokeby: The Kangasaurus

The last time I had kangaroo meat was in a restaurant at Clarke Quay. It was pretty tough then. But The Kangasaurus ($22.90) was surprisingly tender. 120g of grilled kangarooo loin was sliced and laid on toasted sesame seed burger bun, topped with their special spicy cranberry mix. The meat is done medium rare and it was juicy.

Rokeby: Kurobuta Pork Belly

An ang mo version of sio bak, Kurobuta Pork Belly ($25.90) is marinated with sage and served with apple sauce. The sweet apple sauce balances the saltiness from the pork belly. The meat has an agreeable savoury-charred flavour but somehow lacks oomph.

Rokeby: Milk-Fed Veal Steak

Milk-fed veal chop is my current favorite cut of meat. I like it better than a aged steak because it is tender and juicy, mildly flavored. Rokeby’s grilled Milk-Fed Veal Steak ($44.90) is tender and juicy, served with a choice of their homemade compound butter (mixed butter OR curry butter), mash on side. The butter provides more oily goodness to the meat when torched.

Rokeby: Big Fat Bloke

If you want a more luxurious treat or has a serious steak craving, The Big Fat Bloke ($53.90) may suit your palate. 500g of premium grilled Aussie ribeye steak is also served with a choice of their homemade compound butter (mixed butter OR curry butter) and mash on side. If you can finish it all by yourself, you will be awarded with a FREE half pint of draught beer. 500g should be quite easy right, go for it!

Rokeby serves Australian wines and offers a variety of Australian beer, close to the heart. Coffee beans are freshly roasted from Western Australia and gourmet teas imported from Melbourne. Staying true to its roots!
