Anyone who lived through the Roxy Theatre days would have remembered Katong Laksa. It used to be a dish where people will eat before catching a movie. These laksa stalls outside the cinema sells thick bee hoon that was cut and eaten with a spoon only. And one of them was Roxy Laksa.

However, Roxy Theatre was tear down to build the current Roxy Square. The stall has then moved to East Coast Lagoon Food Village. I wasn’t old enough to visit Roxy Laksa when it was next to the theatre in the 60s. However, all is not lost when I visited the Food Village to have a bowl of laksa.

If you have been a foodie, you would definitely have heard about this stall. No cockles have been added, all you have is some fresh prawns, thick bee hoon, fish cake and bean sprouts. But it definitely made people all over Singapore to travel there to have a bowl of laksa.

Secret behind success? Definitely the gravy! It has much of the lemak flavour which is lacking in many laksa stalls. The bean sprouts were also very crunchy. However, the smallest portion is $4 per bowl, which is pretty steep in my opinion.
