For the past two weeks, it has been a real busy period for me. I was practising real hard with my 7 other team members for a Cheerleading Competition which took place last Saturday. Most of us had almost zero background in Cheerleading and the thought of tossing someone up in the air or being tossed by my skinny team members is a scary one.

But I am really glad that we persevered. We gave up our lunch breaks to practise, stayed back after work to continue practise, and even came back during weekends to practise. Winning was not our goal, we just wanted to have fun but perform something that is not too “loser”.

I think we were very lucky. We got one of our team member’s friend to help out during the training period. She was a cheerleader in university so she was familiar with the various cheerleading stunts. Thankfully, a few of us had some dance background, so we choreographed our dance movements with the help of youtube video.

With the span of merely 2 weeks, we got ready three dances, three stunts, clothes, music, pom pom and all for a 2 mins 30 sec performance. Stress level and excitement built up as the day drew closer.
This elevator pose was the last pose for our piece. We failed almost every time we tried. The girls were hurt and it was only two days before the competition that we managed to bring the flyer up to the top without any guidance.

We won. By 0.5 marks. There were screams, cries, laughters all around the indoor stadium. Happiness was beyond words and actions.

So here I am, sharing the little victory I had over the weekends. I know this is totally not related to food, but I just couldn’t contain the excitement alone and not sharing it with all of you.
I used to dream of becoming a cheerleader when I was in school. But it never happens. And it is so amazing that I am still able to do cheerleading when I have graduated for 2 years. I am so glad that I went ahead to take part in the competition and fulfilled my dream.
Now that competition is over, we are back to reality. We smiled to ourselves while watching our competition video over and over again. We do our cheerleading dances quietly in the bathroom. We flip and flip through the photos in Facebook. The team members have now become my good friends in life and these are the beautiful memories that I hold dearly.
