As entertainment writers, you will be charmed by your favourite pop band when they come to Singapore. Beauty writers will probably go crazy when you meet celebrity beautymakers. What about food writers? We go crazy when we meet celebrity chefs, of course!

StarHub’s signature dining event, Hubalicious, is back again! For the third consecutive year, Hubalicious brings leading celebrity chefs and food personalities of the world to Singapore to meet lovers of food and cooking. This year’s theme “The Heritage Food Trail” bring food lovers on on an intimate epicurean journey with four of their favourite TV celebrity chefs from StarHub TV’s quartet of food and lifestyle channels.

They are: Food Channel Asia’s Aarti Sequeira, TLC’s Bob Blumer, Asian Food Channel’s Emmanuel Stroobant and BBC Lifestyle’s Rachel Allen.

I was so excited to be attending Rachel Allen’s Hubalicious dinner at Jewel Box!

Rachel is affectionately described by the BBC as ‘the Irish cooking queen’. She defines Irish food and cooking with the amazing products they have: dairy, meats and meat products, cheeses, fresh fruits like berries and root vegetables like cabbages, potatoes, parsnips and turnips.

Photo above was Rachel trying to demonstrate how to cook an omelette within 1 minute. Two guests were invited to join in the cook-omelette-competition. On the first attempt, Rachel burnt her own omelette which makes her laugh so hard! But on the second attempt, she succeeded and did a very nice omelette!

Dinner begins with Salad with Beetroot, Toasted Hazelnuts and Stilton dressing. Beetroot added extra flavour and colour to the dish.

Roast Duck with Gravy and Sage and Onion Stuffing has tender meat, with stacks of flavor. It was served with cucumber pickle, buttered cabbage and Grann’s Roast Herbed Potatoes, which compliment the richness of duck well.

Here’s a shot of Leslie from ieatishootipost.sg give a short Food Photography talk. All of us are supposed to use our mobile phones to take a photo of the Roast Duck and sent it over. The winner will win a HTC One X mobile phone at the end of the dinner. Guess what, the boy won! whoohoo!

After shooting my main course, it was time for dessert! There’s always a new cooking secret to impart and a personal story to share as the chefs entertain us over dinner, drinks and hearty helpings of fun and laughter.

When someone from the audience ask Rachel how to differentiate between “pie” and “tart”, she simply pointed to the plate of Apple Tart each of us have for dessert and said,”In America, it is an apple pie. In Ireland, it is an apple tart.”

Apple Tart iss my favourite for the nice. Almost every woman in Ireland knows her mother’s Apple Pie Recipe and it is passed down generation to generation. Rachel’s Apple Tart has chunks of apple enclosed in rich shortcrust pastry. Simple yet satisfying.
