Strong Flour – Fresh Handmade Pasta and Pizzas!
Perhaps there aren’t many who invest hours to make dishes from scratch because it’s just too time-consuming. However, Strong Flour is an exception. Strong Flour prides itself on using only the best type of flour to make their pasta and pizza doughs daily.
The open-kitchen concept is a warm invitation to everyone who will like to watch the chefs in action – from rolling out fresh homemade pizza doughs, to layering on the toppings, to popping the pizzas into the oven. In a few minutes, the fragrance of the baked pizzas starts to waft into the air, making diners even more eager for their pizzas to be served.
Their daily specials are not to be missed. Our Smoked Chicken Pizza ($18 – on the special menu) had a soft pizza dough with a crisp outer crust that came with a classic pairing of sundried tomatoes and mozzarella cheese, and slices of smoked chicken breast all atop a base of garlic cream sauce. The chicken is moist, nicely salted, and armed a subtle hint of smokiness. The garlic cream sauce was hardly detectable, however. Too little of it was slattered on the dough and there was hardly any taste of garlic.
The Beef Ragu ($19), one of the chef’s recommendations, was unfortunately quite a disappointment. The beef shin was tough and the red wine tomato sauce was bland and too watery. The fettuccine strands were clumped together, and some strands were much smaller in width as compared to the rest. The consistency leaves much to be desired.
However, I love their minimalist and chic whitewashed, marbled interior which gives off a classy, spacious and comfortable feel. While my experience here wasn’t perfect, Strong Flour’s efforts to provide hearty, fresh and good food are still commendable. I am sure they will iron out the issues in time to come.
