Located at the corner of Lim Tua Tow road, Sunday Market is an industrial theme cafe with quirky furniture. On weekends, it gets pretty busy and you may have trouble finding a table. The cafe offers a more Asian approach to the regular brunch items. Dip the crispy buttered brioche into the Sirloin Rendang ($15.90). Honestly, I won’t use sirloin to cook with rendang. But the rich gravy made up for it.

The truffle fries and wings is one of our favourites. The fries had a hint of truffle oil and the Thai chilli sauce goes well with the skinny wings. I like how Sunday Market tries to push the boundaries by re-inventing traditions and experimenting with ingredients. Our savoury plate of Smoked Salmon & Cheese Waffle is drizzled with some balsamic reduction and paired with mixed cress. Even though the waffle was not fantastic, but it totally changed my expectations on what a waffle can be.

Their bestseller Bangkok toast ($10.90) is a rectangular block of cinnamon brioche toast which was moist within but a little too dry on the outside. It is paired with some green tea puree and Thai milk tea. Personally, I don’t think the 3 elements gel together well. But I enjoyed the Thai milk tea ice cream which is even better on its own.

The dishes are adventurous and different from the usual staples served at other cafes. Taste is really subjective. It didn’t work for me but it may work for others. But I like the ambience which is good for meetups with friends. The menu is halal but the cafe is not, as they also serve beer. If you are driving, good news is, there are carpark spaces along Lim Tua Tow road! And of course, you don’t have to visit the cafe only on Sunday. They are even open on Monday!
