I am very lucky to have met many wonderful readers through this food blog. And they have been part of my gastronomic journey. A few months ago, a reader, Clara, dropped me an email. She was searching for traditional Teochew cake shop online when found my write-up on Thye Moh Chan Cake House.
Around this time of the year, Clara’s mother will patronize a traditional Teochew cake shop “Mui Lee” at Chin Swee Road (near to Red Star Restaurant). She will be there to buy Red lotus paste (紅豆沙) to make rice dumpling. Regrettably, the shop is also a history now.
So Clara dropped me an email to ask if I know of any traditional Teochew cake shop that sells nice lotus paste. It’s really not easy these day to find one and it really affect the taste of the dumplings if the lotus paste is not nice.
Frankly, I am not an expert in this area. So I asked around and found some recommendations of traditional Teochew bakery shops. So I replied Clara and hopefully those shops sell lotus paste.
Unfortunately, those Teochew shops do not sell lotus paste and Clara has to buy it from some ham chi peng stalls. Today, she dropped me an email and asked if I would like to try her dumplings. So here you are, dumplings made by Clara.
Thank you! 🙂
