Truffle Rhapsody at Greenhouse, The Ritz-Carlton
From now till 28 March 2015, Greenhouse has lined up a series of daily dining delights that will please even the most discerning palates daily. I am a huge truffle fan, so I went for Greenhouse’s TRUFFLE RHAPSODY ($72 per adult, $36 per child). Known for their value and distinct taste and smell, we can enjoy a handcrafted selection of truffle-infused dishes at Greenhouse every Thursday, from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
It’s my first time to Greenhouse for buffet dinner, and I find that the selection is reasonably varied. They showcase a range of international flavours and local favourites on buffet, which you can easily find a favourite. Let’s start off with Seafood on Ice featuring Chilled Tiger Prawns, Mussels, Clam and Live Canadian Oyster.
At the Japanese Table, there’s tuna, salmon, snapper sashimi, various traditional and innovative sushi rolls, cold soba noodles and chawanmushi.
Selections of Charcuterie include campagne pate, duck pate, beef pastrami, smoked salmon, pork salami and parma ham.
Western Hot Selections include Braised Beef in Red Wine Sauce and Seabass in Shellfish Sauce. Asian section was not bad, I had the crispy sio bak and delicious stir-fried Kam Heong crabs.
The chef recommended me to try the Indian Curry Station, and I was very surprised by the flavours from the Tandoori Phool Kesari and a selection of Indian Curry served with Mango Chutney, Raita and Papadum. The mildly spicy Butter Chicken relies on spices for flavour and just a touch of butter for richness.
At the Truffle Rhapsody Night, we had a selection of truffle dishes including the Beef Wellington with Truffle Sauce and Yorkshire Pudding, Onsen Egg with Truffle and Choron Sauce, and Truffle Cream Linguine. There’s no doubt that the Beef Wellington is delicious. The exterior is a light, crisp and buttery crust with a deep golden brown glaze. As you slice through the skin, it reveals a medium-rare, buttery-soft beef tenderloin. I should have save more tummy space for one more piece…
One of the signatures in Greenhouse is the Laksa with its fragrant and lemak gravy. They grind sakura ebi into their laksa paste. This bowl of laksa is not available on Truffle Rhapsody Night (Thursday).
Desserts were decent which included Pistachio Lemon Cake, Lemon Mousse with Strawberry Jelly, Yuzu Sour Cream Cheese Cake, Lemon Tea Crème Brûlée, Carrot Cake, Chocolate Pralines etc.
