Va Va Voom Cafe
July 09, 2012
Vietnamese food is one of the healthiest food I know, because they rely heavily on rice, wheat, lots of fresh herbs and veggies. I would imagine a typical vietnamese restaurant to have traditional Vietnamese waitress wearing a straw hat serving food. But I was surprised when I entered Va Va Voom Cafe, because it doesn’t have anything I imagined.
I gave a colleague a farewell lunch last week and she suggested Va Va Voom Cafe, a Vietnamese Cafe that she frequents. It was very very crowded on a weekday lunch. I came out from Esplanade MRT and missed the Seah Street sign which is just a 2 minutes walk from the MRT station. In the end, I spent 20 minutes walking around Raffles Hotel, Raffles City, Chijmes etc, and nearly wanted to hop onto a cab. I blame myself for not being a good Geography student (cannot read map).
Anyway, the cafe is having UOB Lady’s Card Set Lunch at $10 (only for Mondays to Fridays, 12pm til 2.30pm for dine-in) currently, so we decided to go for the menu.
We start off the menu with a staple of Vietnam, the Vietnamese Summer Fresh with Prawns & Chicken. The roll is chooked full of vegetables, chicken, carrots, bean sprouts and prawns, held together by a fabulous bean paste and peanut sauce. Every bite of it is very crunchy, but remember to eat it quickly before the skin dries up.
After the appetizers, we were served very swiftly a Medium Bowl Pho. You can choose between hanoi chicken or sliced beef, so I took the sliced beef. The beef was very chewy and tender. The soup is very mild and delicate, the mint leaves gave a very refreshing taste. Kway teow was used instead of the traditional pho, but I am okay with it because it complemented well.
The meal was topped off with an additional Pork Chop ($8.80) which the colleague recommended. IT WAS DELICIOUS! While I had little complaints about too much fats in the pork chop, but I love the marination of the meat, tangy and slightly sweet taste. I don’t frequent Vietnames restaurant that much, but this is my favourite so far!
We ended the Set lunch with a small cup of vietcoffee ice cream which has a strong yet pleasantly smooth taste.
