We can’t deny that Violet Oon’s passion for Nyonya cuisine and local dishes is unparalleled. We have National Kitchen by Violet Oon Singapore, Violet Oon Singapore and now, presenting to you… Violet Oon Satay Bar & Grill! There are a few tweaks here and there in the menu, but nevertheless, every mouthful remains familiar. Various grilled proteins such as chicken, pork, beef, prawns and tripe are available under the Satay Menu, ranging from $15 to $20. Besides giving your tastebuds a treat, the view of the satay itself is already a feast for the eyes. Moreover, I believe that you won’t be able to resist getting their Ngoh Hiang ($15), Buah Keluak Ayam ($23) and Hae Bee Hiam Sea Bass with Cinchalok Relish ($42).

Half Pound Burger Bar & Grill has made its debut on Purvis Street. Living the Singaporean dream, Mr Yong Tet Sin, 55, sells American craft burgers and dishes such as fish and chips and pastas. Pile on the pounds with their imported Australian beef patties and a pint of beer. On top of the relaxed atmosphere, we were intrigued by the adorable graffiti and wooden wine crates nailed onto the walls. The Half Pound Burger ($18) features a 220g Angus beef, candied bacon, truffled Gouda, Monterey Jack and pickled daikon. Oh, and perhaps you should warm up your jaws before wolfing down them burgers.

Opening its doors to the public this week, Takumi by Sushiro is occupying the previous space that Sushiro occupied. With only 7 items such as the Tokyo Gyuniku Don, Mount Gyuniku Don and Chicken Katsu Curry Udon on their menu, Takumi is designed to be a pop-up store to showcase the repertoire of Sushiro’s potential. Their rendition of yakiniku don draws inspiration from Tokyo, and it is no wonder that their Tokyo Gyuniku Don has emerged a best seller. Moreover, the thin beef slices and onions soaked in a savoury broth will have you jio-ing your friends for a second Takumi date!
