Before I moved to SengKang five years ago, I always have this perception that there is not much to eat in this new town. But now, Sengkang is getting more exciting as more people move here. This also means there are more food options in the area!

Wonton Mama is the latest addition to SengKang. Located at Blk 455 Sengkang West Avenue coffeeshop, the stall serves pretty good Thai-style wanton noodles. I first tried their food when I ordered online during Phase 2 (Heightened Alert). Impressed by the quality, I paid them a visit immediately after dine-in is allowed.

Their Signature Wonton Noodles is served with a variety of ingredients such as deep-fried and boiled wanton, Thai fish sausage, pork collar, onsen egg and pork lard.

The QQ chewy noodles were perfectly al dente. They look underwhelming but after being tossed with a savoury garlic oil and lard oil, the noodles were actually very tasty. The garlic oil made the noodles fragrant and addictive. Even my delivered portion of noodles which I enjoyed at home during Phase 2 was excellent. The noodles did not clump together, yet were not hard. You can add on chilli flakes and green chilli if you like.

It is interesting to see an onsen egg in a bowl of Thai wanton noodles because we usually have it in ramen. But well, anything with onsen egg is perfect.

Their pork collar is well marinated with a strong hint of lemongrass. I did try their grilled pork collar rice which basically uses the same meat, but it was nothing to shout about. In fact, it was a little disappointing. I’m hoping they can come up with pig trotter rice.

There is a good amount of filling in the dumplings. The fried wantons stayed crisp even after a while, and was packed with well-seasoned meat.

To be honest, this wanton mee is much better than those from some of the popular stalls I have been to. I would definitely come back again. Good news for night owls! They operate 24 hours on some days.
