Hotpot is a fan favourite whether it’s for lunch, dinner or supper. For us, the key criteria that set mediocre and awesome hotpot joints apart include a decent variety of tasty soup bases to choose from, a bounty of fresh ingredients with stand-outs that are uncommon, enough sauces to get indecisive over and impeccable service. Wu Wang Guo 勿忘锅 Hot Pot, which is conveniently located in the heart of Chinatown at Chinatown Point, checks all our boxes.

Located on the third floor of the shopping mall, the spacious restaurant has plush, comfy booths that fit up to four pax and larger seating for parties of five to six. There are also VIP rooms that offer privacy and a more intimate setting for larger groups of up to ten pax.

Without further ado, let’s dive into what matters the most — the food. Wow, where do we even begin? Well, first of all, they have seven stunning broths to choose from. We opted for the Quart Pot so we could try the most of what they have to offer, but folks can go for the Single Pot, Twin Pot, Tri Pot, and even the Personal Pot if you don’t fancy sharing.

We went with some of the more popular signatures, one of which was the Collagen Beauty Soup. Boiled for eight hours with pork and chicken bones, premium scallops, fish maw and sea cucumber, the result was a smooth and uber-rich broth that was brimming with umami and collagen. And of course, who wouldn’t love a soup that keeps your skin healthy and glowing?

Next up was the Spicy Nourish Mala Soup to bring a little heat to your palate. It’s made with their house-made chilli oil and a medley of nourishing herbs such as Chinese Angelica root, Goji berries and ginseng. The soup was also absolutely delicious and not overly greasy.

Soothe your tummy and soul with the Nourishing Drunken Chicken Soup that’s also collagen-rich and packed with all sorts of herbs to complement the essence of the chicken. We also got our first taste of their newest broth, the rich golden-hued Golden Fish Maw with Pig Stomach Soup, which has been boiled for over six hours with pork bones, chicken feet, fish maw and pumpkin. Their broths are all painstakingly and meticulously made, so you can be assured of the quality and taste!

Amongst the scores of freshly-prepared ingredients, the specialty assorted platters are definitely worth ordering, especially if you enjoy a variety of the best that’s been picked out for you. The Assorted Seafood Platter ($88.80) features live crab, white sea prawn, green mussel, salmon fillet, sea cucumber, and baby octopus and everything was amazingly fresh.

Here’s where their excellent customer service steps in — they very kindly de-shell the crabs and prawns for guests so major major major plus points!

One of our favourites was undoubtedly the Assorted Beef Platter ($78.80) with all sorts of goodies such as Japan A5 Wagyu Beef, US Prime Short Rib, Sliced US Beef, and Beef Brisket. As you can expect, we couldn’t stop going for the Japan A5 Wagyu Beef. Each slice was beautifully marbled and tender to a fault once cooked in the piping-hot soups.

Fancy pork instead? The Assorted Pork Platter ($38.80) comprises US Kurobuta Pork, Spanish Iberico Pork Collar, Nagano Pork Collar, and Sliced Pork Collar. We love that they offer a good variety of pork collar so we can taste the difference, and they certainly didn’t disappoint!

You can’t come to Wu Wang Guo 勿忘锅 Hot Pot without ordering their handmade balls. Go for the Assorted Ball Platter ($12.80) which has Ebiko Prawn ball, Pork Meatball, Blackpepper Pork Meatball, and Fish Ball. There’s two of each to go around, but you’re definitely going to have to order more servings because they’re seriously good.

Amongst their specialty house-made pastes, the one that shone above all and was very eye-catching was the Dragonfruit Prawn Paste ($12). The vibrant, violet-hued paste was particularly juicy to chow down on once cooked. Even if you’re not an adventurous foodie, you will still enjoy this curious combination. It does make for a very pretty shot for the ‘gram, at the very least!

Another paste that stood out was the Ebiko Prawn Paste ($13). The little bits of ebiko slightly popped when consumed and complemented the luscious prawn paste excellently.

The Sake Drunken Prawns ($13 for half portion, $26 for full portion) proved to be a bit of an exciting sight. The live prawns were still jumping around in their little pot of sake before they finally settled down enough for us to toss them into the broths. We’re not sorry though, because each large prawn was sweet and juicy. Once again, the staff stepped in to peel them so if you don’t have a partner to do that for you, the restaurant has got you covered.

There are also three new items to look forward to at Wu Wang Guo 勿忘锅 Hot Pot – Signature Homemade Crab Tofu ($2.20 each), Scallop Prawn Ball ($6.40 for half portion, $12.80 for full portion), and Smoked Duck Dumpling ($4.20 for half portion, $8.40 for full portion).

Sadly, the latter wasn’t available during our visit but it was love at first bite for the other two. The Signature Homemade Crab Tofu was our absolute favourite. Not only was it adorably shaped into a little crab but it was unbelievably soft and just about melted in our mouths.

Enjoy a free-flow of condiments at $3.80 per person that also comes with fresh fruits and appetisers. Get creative and DIY your sauce concoctions or give their specialty sauces a go. We recommend the creamy WWG Sesame Sauce, fragrant Crispy Garlic Spicy Dip or a classic Garlic Vinegar Dip.
