Xin Sheng Gor Hiong Prawn Crackers – Shatteringly Crispy Prawn Crackers in Taman Jurong

My family orders from Xin Sheng Gor Hiong Prawn Crackers when we head out to Taman Jurong Food Centre for dinner every weekend. It just makes sense to get a huge platter of delicious gor hiong to share, doesn’t it?

I have to say for a gor siong stall, Xin Sheng has one of the neatest menus. There’s a picture for each ingredient so you can tell exactly what you’re picking at the counter. I went for the usual ingredients, such as crispy prawn crackers, homemade sausage, century egg, and deep sea octopus, amongst others. The bill for the gor hiong and 2 plates of bee hoon($1 each) came up to $12.30. Not bad at all, I would say.

The signature dish – Crispy Prawn Cracker — shattered as I bit into it. I loved how airy and fragrant the cracker was. It was so good on its own, and even better when eaten with the bee hoon!

The homemade sausage is also another must-have. Xin Sheng makes their sausages themselves! I find that the sausages here have a better texture and richer fragrance than the sausages from regular gor hiong stalls.

The century egg is a personal favourite of mine.

The bee hoon was strangely addictive. There was nothing really special about it, but you’ll find yourself reaching for more. It goes really well with the housemade chilli sauce and sweet sauce.

I noticed that the owner was not at the stall and asked the staff about him. Unfortunately, he had an accident and broke his leg. His brother is currently filling in for him, and has taken charge of the preparation of ingredients. We sure hope he recovers well and quickly!
