On hot days, cold noodles are especially delightful. After walking from Raffles MRT to Far East Square, having a bowl of cold truffle somen at Yuki Onna is the best thing ever. This small izakaya is very busy during lunch time but service is really quick.

We started with Uni on Toast ($12 for 3), and Sashimi Platter ($18)which includes salmon, tuna and swordfish. I love uni. Well, what’s not to like? It seems to be the ingredient of the moment, and has a really delicate flavour. Soft and creamy uni with a light sprinkling of scallions, yum!

While many of the patrons ordered Japanese rice bowls, I went for the Cold Truffle Somen with Hotate ($14.90) which caught my attention the moment I saw it on the menu. It turned out to be my favourite dish from Yuki Onna!  What a refreshing dish, especially in this weather. The angel hair pasta was tossed in truffle oil, and the scallops were so fresh and sweet! The Cold Spicy Salmon Udon($14.90) was topped with a generous amount of salmon cubes, scallions and tobiko.

I wish I had time to try their Japanese beef bowls, but we were rushing for time, so I manage to just grab a few slices of grilled beef tataki, and pork belly. Although the beef may not be of the most premium quality, it was cooked nicely. My friends mentioned about their Truffle Beef Yakiniku, I need to go back and try it!

For working executives nearby, Yuki Onna is definitely a great lunch option. Service is quick, and you’ll get an affordable wholesome Japanese meal.
