I can’t really remember the last time I ate a kiwifruit. The hairy texture, exotic green colour and sourish taste just didn’t attract me. Okay, I am feeling a lil’ embarrassed as I am typing this. But hey, my conception of kiwifruit made a 180 degrees turn when I attended the kiwi dinner yesterday, organized by ZESPRI kiwifruit and HeartBistro.
ZESPRI kiwifruit are the most “nutrient dense” of popular fruits. Bite-to-bite contains more essential nutrients than 27 of the most popular fruits. The ZESPRI System is a unique farm-to-table process that delivers consistenly high quality delicious fruit while using environmentally considerate methods to grow, cultivate, store and ship the fruit.
There are so many reasons to eat a kiwifruit. They are delicous as a snack or as a surprisingly tasty addition to your meals. Pooja, the nutritionist from The Nutrition Clinic, shared with us the many different health benefits of kiwifruits. Here, I have picked my TOP 5 reasons to eat kiwifruit, as well as a tantalizing 4 course kiwi dinner to inspire you to incorporate kiwifruit into your daily diet. These ZESPRI kiwi dishes are specially created by Heart Bistro based on their available menu.

Green Mango with Crispy Fish ($16, $18)
As our society grows more affluent, more people are now experiencing a richer diet. Often, such diets are laden with cholesterol, high salt & sugar content, fat or uric acid. Hence, Heart Bistro dedicates its mission to the heart of good living and dining for better health. Its wellness menu features modern asian flavours using lighter, healthier cooking techniques.
Inspired by the popular Thai salad, this Salad of Kiwi with Green Mango and Crispy Fish had such a wonderful combination of flavours and textures. I really liked how each bite of green mango and cashew was crunchy, combined with kiwi’s sweetness and the punch from coriander, this refreshing appetiser totally wake up my senses.

The lemongrass lends a deep citrusy aroma, the gold and green kiwi give it a pleasant tangy sweetness quality, and a squeeze of lime brightens up the whole thing!

Trifles are a decadent dessert full of contrasting flavors and textures. Heart Bistro actually has a “Strawberry trifle + saffron mousse” but instead of using strawberry, the chef decided to replace it with kiwi. The Saffron Mousse is a light and airy dessert while the kiwi trifle dessert is a delicious twist on a classic dessert.

After a hearty meal, have a cup of Green Kiwi, green apple, honeydew juice. The juice of these fresh fruits is the richest available food source of vitamins, minerals and enzymes.
If you are totally clueless (like me) on how to choose and store your kiwifruit, here’s some tip for you!

*How to choose?
Hold a kiwi green straight up and give it a light squeeze. If it gives a bit, it’s ready to eat.

*How to store?
Kiwifruit are best stored at room temperature for a few days, away from direct heat or sunlight. For maximum freshness and to ensure that the fruit can be stored longer, keep it in a plastic bag in the refrigerator.

*How to eat?
The easiest way to peel a kiwi is to cut one into haf and scope out the ripe fruit from the skin with a spoon. Alternatively, you can eat it all, including the skin!
