Known affectionately as “ORTO boat noodles,” BKK Bistro & Bar has carved a name for itself with its signature S$0.80 boat noodles, attracting long queues of eager diners.

The choices are extensive. You can customize your bowl with glass or rice noodles, and red tom yum or herb soup base. With a range of six toppings to pick from, including prawn, beef ball, pork liver, and more, you can mix and match to your heart’s content.

Each mini bowl of goodness was a delightful explosion of flavours. I love the red tom yum soup base with a medley of toppings – prawn, beef ball, and pork liver. The glass noodles soaked up the tangy and robust soup, making each spoonful a burst of delight. I couldn’t resist but order more bowls to savour all the different toppings and variations.

With smaller portions, you get to sample multiple combinations and flavours, turning your meal into an exciting one. Diners can also opt for medium or supersized bowls, that come complete with all the delightful toppings, for a more substantial feast.

While boat noodles are the star of the show, BKK Bistro & Bar has more delectable dishes in store. Exclusive to the Kallang outlet are tempting options such as Braised Pork Rice, Spicy Basil Sliced Beef Rice, and other mouthwatering delights that will leave you spoilt for choice.

Let’s talk about the appetizers first. Our team loves their Gai Ping (or Thai-style grilled pork skewers). Each skewer showcases tender and succulent chicken pieces, meticulously marinated with a blend of aromatic Thai spices. The caramelised edges had a heavenly smoky flavour.

The Spicy Basil Sliced Beef Rice at BKK Bistro & Bar is a fiery delight. The beef, cooked to perfection, was tender and infused with a rich marinade that carried hints of sweetness and spice. The spice level was just right – the bold kick of red chilli complemented with the unmistakable aroma of basil, left me craving for more. However, I am not a big fan of their Braised Pork Rice. I found the braised pork belly too tough for my liking.

To sweeten my lunch, I delved into the Instagram-worthy Rainbow Sticky Rice Balls with Mango Slices. The colorful and creamy sticky rice balls soaked in coconut milk, accompanied by luscious mango slices, was the perfect finale for my meal.

If you were disheartened by the closing of their original outlet at Yishun, fret not, as you can once again indulge in these mini bowls of goodness at the same unbeatable price.
