Just a few days back, I took over Hungrygowhere’s Instagram account to hunt for some of the places which sells yummy churros (read about it here). It’s definitely not a coincidence that 3 of my readers (Thank you Fennie, Naushad and Xue Yi) recommended J’s Restaurant for their churros, so I must definitely make a trip here to try it for myself.

Located at Purvis Street, this 3-year-old restaurant offers classic Latin American influenced food, inspired by the owner’s travels through South America. It was pretty quiet during lunch time and I had an enjoyable meal with my other half.

We started with Lamb tostadas, offering 2 crispy corn tortillas filled with shredded slow cooked leg of lamb, shredded lettuce and salsa. Simple yet delicated, I like the texture difference between crunchy tortillas and tender shredded lamb.

J’s Paella ($28 for 1 serving, $39 for 2 servings) is gorgeous. There is chicken, barramundi, salmon and chicken sausage. The colours are bright and enticing, and the aroma is seductive. There is chicken, barramundi, salmon and chicken sausage.

The churros ($12) here is a MUST TRY. To be honest, this is one of the most memorable ones I have tried. These chunky churros may seem like it’s hard to savour, but never read its book by the cover. They are crispy on the outside while fluffy and moist on the inside. The accompanying salted caramel bananas, fresh mangoes and coconut-infused mascarpone sabayon is delicious.

J’s cozy dining environment with friendly service and delicious churros definitely left me a good impression. I was recommended to try their lamb shank, perhaps I can bring my friends here for dinner next time.
