One Man Coffee reminds me of the cafes I visited in Australia – relaxed and laid back just as you would expect. I have been here countless of times, every time I come here, I just wanted to chill out with a cup of coffee. No camera, no laptop. Just me and my coffee.

But One Man Coffee is such a lovely cafe that I can’t bear to not share it with you guys. Located at Upper Thomson road, this cafe serves one of the best coffee in Singapore. They share the same shophouse space with gourmet pizza bar Crust (only opens it’s doors after 5pm), so you can enjoy your pizza while having a coffee. Right after I finished colouring my hair by Phyllis at Pavo Hair Studio last Monday (yes that’s me with green and purple hair #YOLO), I met Derrick for an impromptu high tea session at One Man Coffee.

We ordered a few light brunch bites such as the nutty Brioche French Toast served with homemade berry compote and fresh cream ($10). I still clearly remembered the first time I came here. I ordered their french toast as well and when it was served, I frowned as I thought my french toasted was chao-da (burnt). But after having a slice, I was impressed. The brioche was so pillow-y soft and moist as it was soaked in egg mixture. The walnuts was full of nutty goodness and the blueberry jam and a dollop of fresh cream complemented the french toast. And it gets better after every visit. Very nice! 🙂

Another dish that caught our eye from the menu is the Gashouse Eggs a.k.a. Toad in the Hole a.k.a Eggs in a Basket with the Hole in the Middle ($10) *breathless* Such a long name, perhaps the owners cannot decide what should it be called. lol. Simple dish – an egg cracked in the middle of a toast. What is unique is the bacon jam that comes with it, it is a sweet, savory, and smoky spread that’s just irresistible. They also serves a variety of pastries sourced from artisanal bakery B.A.O.

Ordered my usual cappuccino ($4.50), which excels with well-balanced body and a rich aroma. One Man Coffee sources its brew from Melbourne-based Axil Coffee Roasters. This is quite a pleasant cafe with good coffee and brunch items. Love the rustic wooden interior and I can really sit here, read a book and let time pass by. I think as city dwellers, we sometimes are being afraid to relax.

By the way, if you are looking for a cafe to chill out on Monday, you will be delighted to know that One Man Coffee opens on Monday as well! And you will probably see me there with my coffee. Hurry up before it gets as crowded.
