Onion Restaurant & Bar is another new kid in Bukit Timah Road near Sixth Avenue. No no, it doesn’t serve you with plates and plates of onions. It is a suburban gem which serve oysters, tapas and seafood dishes featuring red, white, yellow, spring onions, shallots and chives.
It was missuschewy‘s birthday, I wanted to give her a birthday treat and she picked Onion Restaurant & Bar because of its interesting name and pretty decor, which resembles Tiffany & Co.

Dinner started with some tapas. We had Duck Confit on Mushroom Stew ($14.80). It was a unique spin from the usual duck confit. Shredded Chunks of duck was stewed with oyster mushrooms for 4 hours to get the flavourful meat and served with pita bread.

Gambas al Ajillo ($10.80) had well-flavored prawns with Spanish garlic. My only complaint is that the prawns were abit overcooked that night.

Being famous for its oysters, the restaurant manager kindly offered to give us their biggest oyster for the night to try, which is about the size of his palm! Their fresh live seasonal oysters come from USA, Australia and Canada and it was really fresh!

Lobster Bisque ($12.80) was swimming with some lobster bisque and it was thick and creamy.

We also shared a bowl of Clear French Onion Soup ($11.80) which was very warming.

I love the Spicy Crabmeat Spaghetti with Caviar ($16.80) which was cooked with sweet and spicy tomato sauce with egg white, topped with crabmeat and black caviar.
The sauce is of right consistency and not too salty — something a lot of Italian restaurants like to overuse, while it has a rich crab flavour infused into every bite of the al dente pasta.

Roasted Lamb Rack with French Herbs ($25.80) is a crowd pleaser!
Sculpted like little pieces of art, the dish boasts of well-marinated lamb cooked with red wine sauce amidst complementing sides such as potato salad and imported seasonal vegetables. Well marbled fats and the meat is soooo tender and juicy.

Heavily spiced Veal Bratwurst  ($18.80) was complemented with Onion Sauce and served with potato salad, cornichons and fried onion rings.

We didn’t order dessert because I made a Frou Frou for Missuschewy, which is a raspberry coconut cupcake. The staff here are kind enough to refrigerate my cake and help me plate it nicely. Great service! If you like this cupcake, click here for the recipe.

Here’s two shots with the chewys. I didn’t know it would take me so long to bake the cupcake. I was late for dinner, I did my makeup on the cab (it was dark) and drew my eye brows in the restaraurant’s toilet. Thank goodness I didn’t look that bad!

The decor of the restaurant features an off-white palette accented with warm yellow-tinted bulbs and subtle mint greens. For more privacy dining, you can request for a seat upstairs.
Friendly and helpful staffs at Onion Restaurant & Bar. Oysters love should come here and give it a try!
