On a sweltering hot day in Johor Bahru, we made our way to Restoran Yew Swee to try their famous Curry Laksa which came highly recommended by our friends. We couldn’t resist the temptation of this beloved and iconic Malaysian dish.

The highlight of Yew Swee’s Curry Laksa is its rich and fragrant curry soup. Made with a combination of lemongrass, galangal, turmeric, and chili, the soup is cooked with coconut milk to create a creamy and savory broth that is sure to tantalize your taste buds.

There are different types of noodles to pair with the soup, and we went for the bee hoon mee, while our friends opted for mee hoon kueh. The generous toppings of fishball, fried beancurd skin, cockles, and bean sprouts in the rich curry laksa broth were definitely more than enough to satisfy our cravings.

Don’t forget to give the dish a squeeze of calamansi, or add in extra sambal if you prefer more heat.

To pair with the Curry Laksa, we ordered some fried vegetable fritters. These huge crispy delights were the perfect complement to the rich and flavorful broth. We couldn’t resist dipping them into the gravy, which made them even more divine!

Restoran Yew Swee also serves other dishes such as mee hoon kueh and lor mee. The mee hoon kueh is a crowd favorite, especially for those who prefer a non-spicy lunch option. The mee hoon kueh is rolled thinly and hand-torn for a nice, chewy texture.

Despite it being peak lunch hour, the service at Restoran Yew Swee was fast, and the waitresses were attentive. We haven’t eaten enough Curry Laksa in JB to give a fair comparison, but many have told us that this is probably one of the best Curry Laksa in Johor. We enjoyed our visit to Restoran Yew Swee and will definitely come back for a bowl of their delicious Curry Laksa!
