Saturday is your day to relax. It should be invested as a day to relax, recharge, and re-energize from the week before it and for the week ahead. That means skip the alarm clock and get up whenever it feels right to you. Then, find a cafe to chill out and eat your hearts out because eating is a favourite past time in Singapore. With this in mind, Saturday House was opened. Situated in one of the shophouses along Upper Paya Lebar road, this bistro, bar and cafe is owned by Adrian Koh who also runs Bistro@Changi.

To start, we had Oven Baked Cheese Nachos ($8) with perfectly baked mozzarella cheese. Nothing special to shout about. But the Marmite Mid Joint Wings ($8) was impressive and in fact, it makes me crave for it as I am typing this. In half a dozen, the savoury flavour of Marmite is enhanced by the honey. It’s reduced to a brown glossy sauce which becomes the perfect glaze for the golden crispy fried chicken. Marmite is not a favourite for some, but trust me, marmite is very subtle here but it still lends a rich taste to the wings.

For brunch (12pm to 5pm), we had the Cheesy Baked Mushroom Toast ($12.90) served with snail sausage and greens. The thick brioche is packed with mushrooms and two kinds of cheeses – parmesan and mozzarella. The spiral Pork Snail Sausage is an eye catcher. This pork sausage is juicy and paired well with the greens. Go for this only if you are a cheese fan.

For me (non-cheese lover), I prefer the Grilled Pork Collar ($18.90). Specially import the pork from France, it yields a tender bite and It’s abit oily and well char-grilled. Again if I would like to pick bones, I find it a little too oily and because of this, I find it difficult (or sinful) to finish the entire dish by myself.

Saturday House: Aglio Olio

The owner is very confident with their Aglio Olio ($11.90) so I ordered a plate as well. Honestly, this wasn’t the best aglio olio I ever had, I wished the was more spicy and more garlicky. The green and red peppers didn’t add any value to the dish.

Overall, I thought my experience at Saturday House to be decent, I enjoyed the marmite wings and pork collar. But I guess it would be a different scenery if you are here for dinner, as it would be more windy and you can chill out at the outdoor area while having beer.
