The Hero In My Life

Advertorial

There are many people who have a place in my heart. But the person who is influential in my life is my grandfather. My grandfather is just like my father. Although I have my real father, my grandfather is the one who is always there for me. No matter what happens in my life, he was always the one who looked beyond my faults. It seems like no matter what I done, I am always the perfect little girl to him.

He used to run a catering business with his brothers. In the past, weddings were common in community centres. They had mobile kitchens to cook at these offsite locations and even though he usually reached home near midnight, we would always stay late and waited for him as he would always bring back the leftover kong ba bao or yam paste for us. During my school days, he would always fetch me from school. Sometimes when I have ECA (during my time it is called ECA, not CCA), my late grandma would cook lunch and he would deliver it to school in tingkat for me.

After my grandmother passed away, my grandfather is the one who takes care of the household, with the help of my aunties. He always portrays himself as a stern figure and a man of few words. But he is loving in his own ways.

Even till this very day, he is my manual alarm clock which wakes me up to make sure I won’t be late for work. He will prepare breakfast or buy my breakfast when I have school and accompanies me for breakfast at the market. He will do grocery shopping daily and cooks dinner for the whole family almost every day. When I am out till late at night, he will wait for me and fetch me from the bus stop.

Heroes walk amongst us every day – people who inspire us, who are there to support us and help us fulfill our dreams. My grandfather is my hero – the man who gives me the source of strength and pushes me on, yet he asks for nothing in return. No words can express how thankful I am to have my Grandpa – the man who has raised me up since birth.

Do you have a hero in your life? There is no better way to express your gratitude than by sharing your hero’s story with everyone. In celebration of SG50, FairPrice has launched a new campaign http://thatsmyfairprice.com.sg to let you show appreciation to an important person that has made an impact in your life.

1. Write about the hero in your life.
2. Dedicate a slice of your customaized cake to him/her.
3. Submit & share your story online: http://thatsmyfairprice.com.sg

Besides sharing your story online, FairPrice will also be doing outdoor interviews or radio dial-in. You can call in to a toll-free line at 1800-888-0808 where they’ll be able to choose 1 of 4 languages (Eng, Chi, ML, TM) after which a recording of the DJ in the respective languages will greet them.

For each story, you have the option to dedicate a customised virtual slice of cake to a particular person via social media or email. The stories collected online will eventually go towards populating a huge virtual cake hosted on the main website. Hurry, send your love to your hero now!
