The Salad Corner

I know Market Street Food Centre (formerly known as Golden Shoe) is already very crowded. And if you are working in Raffles Place and visits Market Street Food Centre regularly, you probably have already noticed the long queue at this new salad stall — The Salad Corner.

But still, I cannot not introduce it to the rest of you because their salad is really cheap and good! I was having my usual Nasi Lemak one day and I was shocked by the never ending queue at The Salad Corner.

So I ask one of my makan buddies,”Wa! How come I never see it before?”
Friend R:”Because it’s new?” (Ok, I think I asked a stupid question.)

Me:”Why so long queue?” (Duh, weekday lunch that hawker centre everywhere also long queue…)
Friend R:”Don’t know.”

Me:”You eat before anot?”
Friend R:”No, because long queue.”

Our conversation was getting nowhere and kind of funny, so I decided I should stop asking her more questions and join the queue!

Service was very swift. There were about 10 people in front of me but within 15mins, it was my turn already. Why do I like this stall? I am sure many of you have been to salad shops in shopping centres where they sell a bowl of salad (which are mainly just vegetables) for $10 or more. But now we have a cheaper choice!

Here, I can create my own salad by adding 5 basic toppings to the salad base at only $4.90. Basic toppings include things like eggs, kidney beans, corns, onions, pasta and many more. Of course, if you want some premium toppings such as tuna, boiled chicken, BBQ chicken, chicken ham, crab stick, cheese etc, you have to top up $1 for each ingredient.

And the happiest thing is, they have 10 different dressings!

1. Japanese Sesame
2. Honey Mustard Vinaigrette
3. Honey & Soy
4. Lemon Zest
5. Sweet Thai Chilli
6. Thousand Island
7. Balsamic Vinaigrette
8. Ranch
9. Creamy Italian
10. Olive Oil

One small hawker stall and yet there are so many choices! My bowl of salad in the picture above was $5.90 because I added one premium topping, which is the crab stick. And when I asked the boss for recommendation on the sauces, he suggest Japanese Sesame, which has a fragrant nutty taste.

If you are working nearby or is craving for some healthy salad for lunch, do drop by The Salad Corner for lunch. My suggestion is to be there early so your favourite ingredients or dressings won’t run out!
