The defunct Ah Pui Satay would inevitably pop up in my mind, whenever I think about where to get the best satays in Singapore. And, to my joy, it is finally back, and serving its signature Grilled Pork Satay in a hawker stall in Toa Payoh.

Known for his chunky charcoal-grilled Hainanese Style pork satay, Ah Pui has been peddling satay in Tiong Bahru for over 30 years before moving to an eatery in Chinatown. It eventually closed its doors in November 2022 due to Ah Pui’s poor health then.

After recuperating for 2 years, Ah Pui is back in business and you can enjoy his sticks of satay once again!

Stick of Satay

The signature pork satay costs $1 per stick(a minimum order of 10). Each stick is dripping with juices and infused with a pleasant smokiness from the charcoal grill. The sticks not only come with meat but chunks of lard as well, making it fragrant yet addictive. I found myself tearing through the 10 sticks that I had ordered, silently wishing I had gotten more.

Their signature sauce is also not to be missed! Unlike other satay sauces, Ah Pui’s rendition is a mix of pineapple and peanut. The mellow sweetness of the pineapple cuts through the thickness of the peanut and elevates the sauce as a whole.

To avoid disappointment, come early! On the day of my visit at 3pm(their opening time), a 1-hour queue had already formed, and they were sold out by 5pm.
