2020 saw an increase in pretty bakes floating around on social media, thanks to talented home bakers and hardworking bakery owners. Amongst the bakes that caught our eye was an incredibly gorgeous buttercream cake shaped like a bubble tea drink, and a mystifying gravity-defying floating beer can buttercream cake. Say what! Our interest was definitely piqued, and we found the creative folks behind these happy meticulously-crafted bakes — Bob The Baker Boy.

Turns out, it’s not just Bob, but there’s an entire team behind Bob the Baker Boy. The team is dedicated to sending out desserts made with 30-50% less sugar than your average bakes. Their signature cottony cakes boast pillowy-soft and moist chiffon layers and they have more than 500 unique cake designs for you to choose from! Of course, you can also customise your own for parties and special occasions. Sinful-looking but healthier treats that taste just as good as they look? Um, yes please!

As an ardent fan of brown sugar bubble tea, the Brown Sugar Boba Milk Cake (S$59.90/ six-inch) was right up my alley. The fragrance of the brown sugar from the chantilly cream is captivating, and I adored their take on pearls. I can definitely see it being popular among the younger crowd.

A taste of tropical summer awaits in the refreshingly light Citrus and Black Currant Mousse Cake ($59.90 for a six-inch). The vanilla cake layers are a little on the dense side, separated with a layer of citrus mousse with juicy pomelo bits and tart blackcurrant chantilly with crunchy balls hidden within for texture. It is also quite the visually pleasing sight, featuring bursts of colour with toppings of lemon wedges, edible flowers and blackcurrants dusted with gold powder.

The Assorted Four Cheese Mini Tarts Box ($24.90 for 12) certainly makes for a pretty picture. These bite-sized treats come in flavours of strawberry cheese, cookies and cream cheese, blueberry cream cheese and Brulee cheese, all encased in a crumbly vanilla crust that goes beautifully with the creamy, cheesy fillings. The fruity flavours are very well-balanced, making each tart exceptionally addictive. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself devouring everything in the box at one go!

As we’re inching closer towards February, it’s time to start stocking up on CNY goodies. Bob The Baker Boy has launched their CNY collection of bakes befitting the festive season. We love how the Cranberry Earl Grey Cookies ($26.90 for 220g) borrows the same moreish batter from the Original 55% Chocolate Cookies and is perfumed with the gentle fragrance of earl grey, and accompanied by a lovely tartness of the cranberries.

Of course, what would CNY be without the staple Golden Pineapple Tarts ($26.90 for 22 pieces)? Expect generous sweet and sour pineapple filling encapsulated by a melt-in-your-mouth crust that is light, crumbly and oh-so buttery. Yum! The tarts also have a lower sugar content, which means lesser calories to worry about while stuffing ourselves silly.

This Chinese New Year, their Bundle of Three is going for $75, and a Bundle of Four tins go for $99.
There’s no end to the variety of sweets they have up their sleeves. You name it, they’ve got it! They even have dessert tables (from $650) for lavish and special occasions such as birthdays or weddings. And best of all, dessert lovers no longer need to feel guilty about indulging. Not with Bob The Baker Boy’s healthier offerings to the rescue!
