“When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s amore.” At Collezione LAN, a menu of Italian dishes comprising pizza, pasta and other mains will instantly captivate you. The newly-opened casual dining restaurant on 83 Geylang Road specialises in wood-fired pizzas created from scratch by the head chef, who had previously spent time polishing his skills at a famous Italian restaurant.

Located just a five-minute walk away from Kallang MRT, Collezione LAN is dressed elegantly. The restaurant sports an emerald green-and-gold exterior, complete with classy decor inside, and is furnished with plush, black leather seats, marble tabletops, blue-gold furnishings and glass chandeliers. Don’t be intimidated by the sophisticated setting because you can expect top-quality dishes at pocket-friendly prices. Unbelievable, we know!

We began our meal with a classic Italian prelude — Burrata Cheese Salad ($18). The creamy burrata cheese was served atop a bed of rocket, diced tomatoes and mangoes with a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette. I especially loved how the tanginess of the mangoes added a pop of flavour to the crisp greens and indulgent cheese.

Another starter that will whet your appetite is the Mussels with 2pcs Garlic Bread ($8), which is bathed in a garlicky, butter sauce with a white wine finish. The shellfish was plump and sweet, and fairly addictive. It’s a shame to leave any remaining sauce behind so remember to mop it all up with the garlic bread!

Other appetisers to look forward to include Spicy Drumlets ($10 for eight pieces), Truffle Fries ($8), Soft-Shelled Crab with Takoyaki Mayo ($12 for two pieces) and Crispy Karaage ($8 for eight pieces).

Their collection of wood-fired pizzas is made in a special oven imported from Italy, and promises 12 flavours that will spoil diners. Expect perennial favourites such as Margherita ($9) and Hawaiian ($13), to interesting fusions like Chicken & Onsen Eggs ($16) and Nori Mentaiko ($15). We opted for the Seafood ($18),  an eye-catching presentation of squid, prawn and black olives.

The best parts about the pizza here have to be their crisp thin crust and that distinct smokiness of wood infused into them. Every individual ingredient shone bright and was bound together beautifully by the perfect proportion of melted cheese and tangy tomato base.

The Chilli Crab ($20) was equally addictive. The fresh crab meat covered in a slightly spicy sauce will keep your taste buds tingling without overwhelming them. We can safely say that this was one of our absolute favourite pairings with the wood-fired pizza crust!

When it comes to Italian fare, you can’t go wrong with pasta, especially Collezione LAN’s. Shellfish lovers will love the Vongole Bianco ($15), brimming with garlicky goodness. Slurp up the al dente spaghetti and savour the little bursts of sweetness that explode as you bite into the toothsome clams. Mamma mia!

Of course, the pasta options are as diverse, with faultless classics such as Carbonara ($16), Spicy Prawn ($18) and Truffle Mushroom ($15).

The mains are also 100% worth sinking your teeth into. Treat yourself to their Grilled Angus Rib Eye (250g) ($38), which is paired with roasted baby potatoes and vegetables. Cooked to a perfect medium rare, the 150-day grain-fed meat was superbly juicy and tender. While it was plenty decadent on its own, dip the gorgeous meat into the accompanying black pepper sauce for a different flavour that is just as great.

If seafood is more your speed, we recommend giving the Sword Fish ($20) a go. It reminded me a lot of Chinese-style dishes but more atas, presentation-wise. There wasn’t much seasoning on the fish, which allowed you to fully savour the sweet, delicate white flesh. What made for a pleasant surprise was the lemon sauce on the side that further elevated the fish.

Other must-try dishes include Honey Mustard Pork Ribs (Half Rack) ($22), Grilled Pork Collar Steak ($18) and Pork Jowl ($25).

It’s not often that you can find top-notch Italian food without breaking the bank, but Collezione LAN delivers on affordability and quality. Not to mention, the ambience of the restaurant makes it the perfect location for any occasion, be it for family dinners, a gathering among friends or intimate date nights. I can definitely picture Collezione LAN quickly becoming the next go-to for meals for many in the days to come!
