Having been in business for 12 years at Ubi 350 Coffeeshop, Crispy Roti Prata is owned by an Indian couple. Both the husband and wife have mastered the skills of flipping the pratas and cooking them to a perfect crisp. However, only the husband makes the dough. Everyday, without fail, he makes the dough from scratch around 4am. Their prata is always sold out by the end of the day. So you can expect prata made from dough that’s been prepared on the morning on your visit.

Plain Prata ($0.80 each, minimum 2 pieces)

Although it was not the crispiest I’ve had, the plain prata was still crispy to a great extent. I prefer kosong pratas with fish curry in general. The slight tanginess and spiciness from the fish curry adds another dimension to the crispy plain prata.

Egg Prata ($1.30 each)

The egg prata was nothing to shout about. I don’t know how many of you take your egg prata with sugar, but I like my prata with curry. However, I discovered that egg prata matches sugar very well! No turning back for me!

Plaster ($1.40 each)

Plaster prata is my new favourite prata to order after suppering at several popular Indian prata places.

Cheeseprata1
Cheese Prata ($1.50 each)

Savoury cheese prata is another prata that I’ll recommend dipping in sugar! That’s my favourite combination but this time round, I decided to pair it with Crispy Roti Prata’s mutton curry as the sweetness of the curry complements the saltiness of the cheese.

Overviewofpratasportrait1

Although Crispy Roti Prata does not have out-of-the-norm fancy pratas, its simple pratas keep regulars coming back. The prata was not as oily as I had expected, which was great of course. The lady boss was secretive about her husband’s excellent technique in making the dough and didn’t divulge much. Their insistence on making the dough daily reveals their dedication to serving their loyal customers simple but great prata.
