Delicious Beef Noodle – New Gem Tucked Away in Amoy Street Food Centre!

Like every other hawker centre in the CBD, Amoy Street Food Centre saw bustling crowds of office workers when it’s time for lunch. As queues began forming at the more popular stalls, a two-month-old beef noodle stall was quietly serving hungry customers who have wandered into the less-ventured parts of the hawker centre.

Tucked away in a corner towards the back of the second level of Amoy Street Food Centre, Delicious Beef Noodle is run by a team of two uncles. The two friends work in perfect tandem; one is in charge of cooking the noodles and spooning out gravy, while the other is responsible for dishing out condiments and collecting payment.

Besides taking your pick between dry or soupy noodles, you can build your soup with sliced beef, beef tripe, brisket, tendons and beef balls. You can opt for just one ingredient in your soup as well, like Beef Ball Soup ($4/5). If rice is your preferred choice of carb, you can throw in a bowl of plain rice for just 50 cents.

I went for the Sliced Beef Soup ($5). The white kway teow noods were abundant and went excellently with the soup, which also reminded me of pho except that the broth had a peanut-like base to it. There was also sour veg present which didn’t really affect the soup much but provided its own acidic crunch and complemented the noodles well.

The beef slices here were some of the best I’ve had in Singapore. Beautifully tender (almost melt-in-your-mouth) and seasoned well, they were so easy to polish off.

For my dry noodles, I decided to go all in and get an ensemble of sliced beef, beef tripe, brisket, beef balls and tendon ($7) along with rice noodles.

Among the ingredients in this bowl, the brisket was the standout for me. Not only was it a breeze to eat (no tough bits at all!), it was nicely marinated. The beef slices weren’t as satisfying as the ones in the soup though.

The tripe had a good chewy texture, and the tendon was soft and jelly-like. As for the meaty beef balls, it took some effort to sink my teeth into them. Although the meat balls were too tough, its shortcoming was made up for by the on point seasoning.

The viscous gravy clinging to the noodles was pretty light on flavours; I would have preferred it to be heavier. It also dries up easily so it’s best to consume it fast! As for the accompanying soup, it was a lot saltier (with a hint of pepper) than the one served in the soup version of the beef noodles.

It’s still a pretty quiet stall, but I can only imagine the growing queues once this article goes out. Just remember to have patience with the uncles as service might become slower depending on the crowd but I can guarantee that it’s worth it (especially if you get the beef slices!).
