Dove Desserts' Chendol

I am a Chendol fan. My craze started only last year when I tasted a very yummy one in Malaysia. I witness the owner painstaking make his own chendol using the machine. But to be frank with you, I have never tasted much chendol after that. Because I am so worried I will be wasting my calories on something below expectations.

Upon visiting Dove Desserts, I decided to eat chendol first and think about gym another day. Many of you told me this is one of the best chendol in Singapore, I certainly agree!

Dove Desserts' Chendol

Look at the beautiful hue of pale jade green. All these green worms are homemade by the stall owner. While it has a mild pandan scent and a springy texture, I was hoping my chendol strips to look fatter than it is. Nevertheless, by going an extra step to make your own chendol instead of buying it from supplier is already a plus point.

When I eat a bowl of Chendol ($1.50), the first thing I looked for is the presence of gula melaka. In trying to make a good bowl of chendol, the stall owner draws inspiration from the street stalls of old town Malacca, a paradise for chendol lovers.

Here, the coconut milk and gula melaka here is fresh! The owner visits Malacca every three months to buy gula melaka from a factory there. And definitely not forgetting the red beans which is fragrant. For 50 cents more, you can top it with durian puree to take this sin to a higher level.

 Dove Desserts' Cheng Tng

Besides Chendol, Dove Desserts also specializes in traditional desserts such as Ice Kachang, ABC (Air Batu Campur), Cheng Tng and many other delicious desserts.

We tried the hot Cheng Tng ($1.50) which comes with persimmon, winter melon and all the real traditional stuff. Read about the Insing interview with Dove Desserts owner, Helen Lai, here (http://food.insing.com/feature/helen-lai-dove-desserts/id-e2fb0100%20).

Coincidentally, I think I have found another place which sells very good Chendol! Stay tune!
