When I’m in Johor, there’s one breakfast dish that’s an absolute must: a piping hot bowl of Kway Teow Soup. There’s just something about it, especially on a chilly morning. And I’m happy to report that I don’t need a road trip to Johor anymore because JB Old San Huan Teochew Kway Teow Soup has set up shop right here in Paya Lebar!

This unassuming stall draws quite the crowd during lunch, and it’s easy to see why. The star of the show is their cloudy pork bone soup, simmered to perfection, with a subtle touch of sweetness that’ll keep you sipping till the last drop.

The kway teow noodles are pure silkiness, whether you like them dry with lard and shallot oil, or bathing in the best-selling Signature Teochew Kway Teow Soup ($4.50).

The soup version sees a hearty bowl of aromatic soup brimming with pork liver, fish cake, pork slices, minced meat, pork ball, and more. Your taste buds will be doing a happy dance.

If you’re in the mood for something different, don’t miss their Signature Teochew Sliced Fish Soup ($7). The addition of sole fish powder adds a fragrant twist to this dish. With thick fish slices, tofu, tomatoes, and more in the mix, it’s like a flavourful blend of Teochew and Cantonese-Malaysian styles of fish soup, with a nice kick of umami in every sip.

Be prepared for a short wait during peak hours. And before you leave, why not swing by Jie Bakery to grab some fresh bread for later?
