Nestled in the Ubi industrial estate, Thai Seng Fish Soup (formerly known as Tai Seng Fish Soup) is a hawker gem that has garnered a devoted following for its legendary fish soup. Despite its recent move to a nearby kopitiam within the same industrial area, the queues remain as long as ever.

Introducing the one and only Thai Seng Fish Soup in Ubi, helmed by the charming husband-and-wife duo, Henry Tan and Joanna Teo. But wait, before you get confused, let’s clear the air – this is not the Tai Seng Fish Soup in Clementi or Jurong. They decided to make a name change, now known as Thai Seng Fish Soup, to avoid any mix-ups.

On our recent visit to try their famous fish soup, and the 45-minute wait in line only heightened our anticipation. But let us assure you, it was worth every second.

Thai Seng Fish Soup takes the crown when it comes to delivering mouthwatering fish soup dishes. Their secret lies in using only the freshest, high-quality batang fish, which holds together beautifully, providing a delightful bouncy bite in every spoonful.

They take pride in slicing the fish themselves to maintain the utmost quality, ensuring each slice is perfection. The fish bones are used for their soup base. You can taste the dedication in every spoonful, a taste that sets them apart from the rest.

The Double Sliced Fish Soup Bee Hoon comes with both fresh fish and fried fish slices. I loved the firm, fresh and sweet slices of Batang fish which were so tender.

Now, let’s talk about the delightful surprise they add to their fish soup – fried eggs strips! These “golden egg bombs” (炸蛋 zàdàn) are deep-fried to perfection and take on a heavenly taste after soaking in the luscious fish soup. The strips were fragrant and they add an extra layer of indulgence to an already delightful meal.

The fish soup was also made healthier with the addition of xiao bai cai. All the well-executed ingredients, together with slippery, slurp-worthy bee hoon, makes for a wholesome meal!

For me, the ultimate choice is their Tomyam Fish Soup. From the very first sip, you’ll be greeted with a burst of sourness, followed by a hint of sweetness that rounds off the flavours. But beware – the spice level starts off deceptively mild, only to build up gradually until your lips tingle with delightful numbness. I felt that Tai Seng really nailed the Tomyam soup as not many fish soup places can create that lightness and spice flavour that gets you hooked onto its taste.

The Tomyam soup comes complete with slices of fresh fish, onions, and cabbage, making each spoonful a satisfying and comforting experience, especially when enjoyed with a side of fluffy rice. If you are a fan of their fried egg strips, remember to add on to your meal!

Although they’ve moved to a new location, Thai Seng Fish Soup’s unwavering popularity remains, attracting loyal customers and curious foodies alike. The next time you head out for a food adventure, why not head to Tai Seng for a bowl of comforting fish soup? Remember, when it comes to authentic Thai Seng Fish Soup, there’s only one address – Ubi.
