Some days, you don’t want fancy food. You just want something warm, clean, and comforting after a long day at work. And recently, while exploring Bedok South, we stumbled upon a fish soup stall that feels exactly like that.

There are already a few strong fish soup contenders in Bedok, but Ah Hak Fish Soup is one that surprised us in a good way. Run by Uncle Ah Hak, the stall has that old-school hawker energy — efficient, no-nonsense, but still warm and welcoming. Even though age is catching up, Uncle Ah Has moves swiftly behind the stall, preparing bowl after bowl with quiet confidence.

What makes this story even more interesting is that Uncle Ah Hak previously ran Guan Guan Seafood at Bedok 85. Now, he has chosen to focus purely on fish soup — a practical decision that requires less manpower while allowing him to concentrate on doing one thing really well.

The fish soup here leans towards the lighter side, but don’t mistake light for bland. The broth is naturally flavourful and comforting without being salty.

The fish slices are fresh, thick and satisfyingly meaty — not the thin type that breaks apart. Each bowl also comes with ingredients like tomatoes, tofu and fragrant fried garlic, which add layers of flavour and texture.

One small detail we really enjoyed — dipping the fish slices into the garlic with white vinegar dip. It sharpens the flavours and really whets the appetite. If you want something more indulgent, you can also add fish eggs, which gives the soup extra richness and bite.

This is the kind of fish soup that feels nourishing and easy to eat, whether it’s a rainy day, a long work day, or just when you want something lighter but still satisfying.

On top of fish soup, they also serve braised pork knuckle — and it’s worth ordering if you’re sharing.

The braising sauce is savoury with a slight sweetness, but importantly, not too salty. It pairs extremely well with rice, especially if you like mixing sauce into your rice. The meat is tender and comforting, leaning towards that classic home-style braised flavour profile.

Yes, They also sell Hokkien Mee. But it was not available on our day of visit.

Ah Hak Fish Soup is simple, well-executed hawker food made by someone who clearly has years of experience behind the wok and ladle. If you’re around Bedok and looking for something comforting and reliable, this is one bowl worth trying.
