I tried nasi ambeng once, and fell in love with it. I love sharing a huge platter with my friends, so I can taste a bit of everything. Sharing is caring, yes?

Nasi Ambeng Nenek Leng is a family-run business that just opened two months ago at Golden Mile Food Centre. I spoke with the owner, Roanny, and he shared that all the recipes were passed down from his late grandmother. He also mentioned that “Nasi Ambeng Nenek Leng” is a tribute to his late grandmother. Roanny’s mother starts her day as early as 2am to prepare the different dishes, which are all made from scratch daily.

Here’s the menu :
Solo Ambeng: $5.90
Solo Ambeng Premium: $9.90
Duo Ambeng: $20
Nasi Ambeng for 4 pax: $39.90

Nasi ambeng is a beautiful ensemble of contrasting textures, colours and flavours. The huge platter was so eye-catching that everyone shifted their attention to our table. A mound of white rice was surrounded by a myriad of ingredients – beef rendang, curry chicken, salted Bombay fish, sambal goreng, begedil, winged beans, serunding, beef lungs, achar, and ikan bilis with peanuts.

As an avid fan of beef, I tried the beef rendang first. The perfectly thickened gravy was rich and creamy, whereas the meat was tender and flavourful. This was my favourite item of the lot, without a doubt. I am no fan of animal innards, but the beef lungs, which were chewy and firm, were pretty interesting.

Winged beans seem to be uncommon in Singapore but you can find them at Nasi Ambeng Nenek Leng. This unique vegetable was lightly seasoned and crunchy. I loved the salted Bombay fish which was extremely crispy!. Pairing it with some rice and sambal belachan created an explosion of flavours in my mouth.

The sambal goreng, which was sweet, spicy and tangy, was very appetizing and addictive.

The unassuming curry might not look spicy, but it was very fiery, and very shiok.

The serunding (spiced grated coconut) was very aromatic — that earthy coconut flavour was just so captivating!

The crispy begedils are not to be missed.

The achar added a refreshing tanginess which cut through the greasiness of the other items, and I couldn’t get enough of it!

It was indeed, a very indulgent and filling meal. You could eat nasi ambeng alone, but I find that sharing a huge platter makes the dining experience more enjoyable! Satisfy your nasi ambeng cravings at Nasi Ambeng Nenek Leng. You won’t regret it!
