Fish always play a big role in Chinese celebrations. When served whole, including the head and the tail, it beckons a good beginning and end to the year. The Chinese word for fish “鱼”(Yu) sounds like the words for wish and abundance.

From now till 31 August, Plaza Brasserie is having “Catch of the Day” dinner promotion from Monday to Friday. Besides getting to eat their buffet line, you can enjoy their range of freshest catch of the day, from promfret, sea bass, baby snapper to sea bream, kee fish, milk fish, tilapia fishes etc.
Yes, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. You don’t get fillets or small fish slices, you are served exactly what you see in the photo, THE WHOLE FISH. This is a pretty hefty dish and can easily feed 4 people!

This is what you do:
1. Choose the fish you want.
2. Tell the chef how you want to cook it.
And whoola! It is on the table! You can mix and match the fishes and preparation styles, which include Hong Kong, Teo Chew, Nonya, Thai Lime or if you prefer your fish to be deep fried, you can choose the sauces to be Sweet & Sour or Black Bean.
I had Steamed Sea Bass in Hong Kong Style(港式清蒸金目鲈)first. Decorated with spring onion and a touch of soy, the sea bass is steamed to perfection. Its fresh is firmer with more bite. Definitely a hit for my Mum and Dad.

If you are a fish head curry lover, take your pick from Sea Bream, Snapper, Song Fish and Norwegian Salmon Fish Head and have it cooked with Indian or Local Curry Flavours.
Being the fire-eater in my family, I eat chilli like Asians eat rice. Thus, Indian Curry with Song Fish is not a problem for me. The fresh Song Fish head(松鱼)is covered with a richly spiced Indian curry. Strong, rich and spicy just the way a good fish head curry should be. Also served in a claypot which keep the dish warm.

Nyonya food takes its influences from Chinese Malay cuisine but with a real south east Asian twist. Fried Sea Bream (海鲷) with Nonya sauce is my favourite dish for the day. While some of you may think that the sauce is overpowering, I felt it enhances the flavour and give abit more kick to the dish.

Local curry flavours is definitely more appealing to most people’s palette. Though the Red Snapper(红石斑)meat came abit too tough, this curry has a spicy yet familiar taste and is flavored with mustard and curry leaves, served with ladyfingers and eggplant.

After enjoying the freshest catch of the day, don’t forget to enjoy the rest of the dishes in the buffet line. You can toss your own caesar salad, or enjoy a range of healthy appetizers such as potato salad, prawns with mango salad, garden green etc.

Food1
The hot varieties changes everytime, but what is always in the menu, and also the most popular dishes are the Crispy Soft Shell Crabs and Braised Sea Cucumber with Roast Pork.
There is also live cooking station, such as Roti Prata, Roast Duck, Sashimi and many more. I have to comment that I really enjoy the wide range of Roti Prata here. There are different flavours such as Chocolate, Banana, Egg, Plain… and there is also Durian Prata!

Food-1
If you are a durian lover like me, don’t miss out on the bowl of Durian Pengat hiding at a corner. Although rich, it is not too sweet and creamy and there are chunks of durian pulp all through the dessert. Other delicious desserts include cakes, bread pudding, chocolate fondue, fruits etc.
